17. USAF 1983-1987

"War is our profession; peace is just a byproduct." (actually, it first was the absurdist "peace is our profession" which got some interesting play in the movie "Dr. Strangelove"

As in, people shooting each other to death under the "peace is our profession" sign.

19. Can I add my daughter?
Edited on Fri Mar-10-06 02:08 PM by ismnotwasm
She is just now getting out after nine years. March 7th 2006
She served in Korea and Afghanistan
She is an E-5 (might be E-6, but I think she started the getting out process before being promoted)
She served in the Army 325th forward support battalion (hadn't been deployed since Vietman until this war)
She loved the army and leaves completely disillusioned and with a broken heart. No protection against reality. The war experience has created yet another humanist and liberal. (I don't know where she would be politically now otherwise, she went in at 18)
My warrior daughter.
Edit: I want to thank you all for your service.

Refused to extend my enlistment to go to Vietnam and kill people I had nothing against. Got 30 days mess duty for the way I worded my refusal incorporating my second language - profanity. Along with some commentary about the Texan-in-Chief, officers, NCO's, and the military in general.

129. We used "The Crotch" too....
About 20 years later, an old guy like me was substituting for me at my school. I talked to him later and it came out that he'd been in the MarCorps, too.

I said "What years were you in the Crotch." He responded..."Well...I was in the Marine Corps".

I said "Must have been an officer, huh? Major or above?" He said yes.

Figures... I requested that he never sub for me again.

When I was there in 70-71 the US Navy's VP-1 and VP-7 were rotating through. By then we had stopped going to Cavite City. The corrosion control on the P-2s was then done at Cubi Point, NAS. But, as you know, NAS Cam Rahn Bay was the best duty in the 'Nam. Too bad our mission sucked so.
