SAGO Mine disaster: time for a Stossel report on the merits of greed.
Twelve miners died in the disaster in the SAGO coal mines , owned byAnker Coal (sold in November to INternational Coal Group). This mine had been sited 276 times by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) for violastions in 2004 and 2005 including 120 that were considered "significant and substantial". Since 2000 the incidence of injuries at the Sago mine was also higher than the average -- MORE THAN TWICE THE NATIONAL RATE, MSHA data show.

I'd love to hear John Stossel do another report praising the goodness of greed. I can just hear him now:

"Hey, GIMME A BREAK! This company gave hundreds of men good jobs. So a few got careless and died. They knew this kind of work was dangerous, didn't they? Gimme a BREAK! Hey, look at it this way, this company saved a lot of men from getting skin cancer! Some of those who died probably would have died of skin cancer anyway, if they hadn't a been down in the mine all the time! Gimme a BREAK! This comapany was doing them a favor and paying them a wages too! Gimme a BREAK!
Hey, the money this company saved by not conducting adequate pre-shift examinations to check for noxious or combustible gases ended up giving energy consumers lower electric bills!

(yeah, maybe over 5 years about a dollar off your total bill - that is, if the savings went into lower fees for power - instead of into a larger bonus for the CEO.)

Hey John - give ME a break, - and stuff it!
