Judy Barr-Topinka's Lover Lowers The Boom...
http://cbs2chicago.com/topstories/local_story_064184332.html

The GOP candidate for governor won endorsements Sunday from former Attorney General Jim Ryan and a local newspaper, but only hours later these new allegations issue a major blow to her campaign.

Marty Kovarik has been married to wife, Alice, for almost three years. But before that, he says, Topinka and Kovarik had a long-running romantic relationship. After they began dating, the then-state senator named Kovarik her chief of staff and later, when Topinka was elected state treasurer, she appointed him deputy treasurer.

Kovarik claims that Topinka routinely ordered her state employees to do political campaign work on taxpayer time.

Gotta love when those "youthful indiscretions" come back to haunt.

Cheers....

1. It's definitely popcorn time in Chitown this week
The Repukes are eating each other alive. Blago, who has not been a particularly good governor IMO just has to sit back and watch the train wreck.

I am already seeing "Topinka" yard signs in this g-dforsaken town. These people are actually going to STILL VOTE REPUBLICAN!@#$#@ Can you believe it? Seeing all the corruption in the repuke party means NOTHING to these people.

Look at this story. ;)

Jim Ryan nod to Topinka fuels '95 loan controversy

March 6, 2006

BY JIM RITTER Staff Reporter

<snip>
But the nod from former Attorney General Jim Ryan gave new life to a controversial state loan that has dogged Topinka for more than a decade and has become an issue in the March 21 primary.

In 1995, state Treasurer Topinka was poised to allow investors to repay a $15.5 million state loan for an unprofitable Springfield hotel at 25 cents on the dollar. Topinka said it was the best deal the state could get.

But Ryan blocked the deal, and now Topinka's opponents have made it a campaign issue. A TV ad by Aurora dairy owner Jim Oberweis called the deal "so rotten the Republican attorney general ordered it blocked."<snip>

TOPINKA leads Bagojevich in the polls? WE CANNOT LET HER WIN! WE HAVE HAD TOO MANY YEARS OF REPUKE GOVERNORS IN THIS STATE.

In a surprise, Judy Baar Topinka (R) leads incumbent Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D), 48% to 37%, according to a new Rasmussen Reports poll.

"Blagojevich does better against two other potential challengers." Blagojevich is tied with Ron Gidwitz (R) at 40% and holds a very slight lead over Jim Oberweis (R), 43% to 39%.

3. Uh oh, the Milk Nazi has to be LOVING this one!
Uberweis... er... Oberweis must be either driving this or at least loving it.

Topinka is the biggest shot the GOP has to take it away from Blagojevich.

8. I've never tried, nor will I ever try, Uberweis milk
After his run for the Senate, I knew there is no way I could ever hand any money over to anybody that has anything to do with the Milk Nazi.

12. My Neighbor Has One Of His Yard Signs
A business associate tried to invite me to lunch at one of this doofus' "restaurants"...I refused and he was all out of sorts about the whole thing...but not enough that he didn't move the meeting to a steakhouse of my choice (/sucker) and then he didn't get the sale.

I'm supporting Eisendrath in the primary...and probably will swallow hard and punch the chad for Blago in November. In the meantime, this is the stuff that will make my next 4th of July parade more interesting. The local Repugnicans have been imploding for the past 10 years...anything I can do to help 'em along, I just look at it as doing the neighborly thing.

Cheers....

14. i have to disagree-
the biggest shot that the gop has to take it away from blago- is blago himself.

Edited on Mon Mar-06-06 04:21 PM by Walt Starr

And when this election season is over, I'll be an Independent.

20. I've never heard of him either.
LOL. ;) John Pavich, Ex CIA agent is running against Weller. Weller's in BIG trouble too. He knew about the Exelon Nuclear plant leaks of toxic chemicals 2 YEARS ago and did nothing about it. He's also connected to the Abramoff scandal. I hope he loses BIG.

Here's John's web site: http://www.pavichforcongress.org/

13. Keyes Is A "Found Memory"
The closest he gets to Illinois today is his atlas in his suburban DC living room (or torture chamber)

The fall of the Illinois GOOP could be the blueprint of what happens on the national level. There's the ongoing corruption trial of George Ryan that cost 'em the Governorship after nearly 20 years and Topinka is their only statewide elected official. The party is split 4-ways...and my bets are this story came from the inside (Oberweis anyone???). It's to the point that these morons know they won't win in November, so they're more interested in tearing each other apart now.
