"Jersey Girl" critiques administration stance on NSA suveillance.
(For those who don't know, Kristen is one of the "Jersey Girls", a 9/11 widow. Without the "Jersey Girls", it's doubtful that there would have been a 9/11 Commission (flawed as it is) at all. -r.)

The King's Red Herring

by Kristen Bretweiser

Recently, President Bush has admitted to carrying out surveillance on U.S. citizens in the interest of national security. He unabashedly admits to doing it. He offers no apologies. With his bellicose swagger, he once again uses 9/11 as his justification for breaking our constitutional laws. The President's justification of 9/11 to carry out such surveillance begs a closer examination.

President Bush should be stopped in his tracks with regard to his use of 9/11 scare tactics to circumvent constitutional laws that are meant to protect U.S. citizens. His justification for doing so -- the inability to conduct surveillance on the 9/11 hijackers -- is a red herring. History will bear out the truth -- our intelligence agencies held a treasure trove of intelligence on the 9/11 hijackers, intelligence that was gathered through their initially unencumbered surveillance. President Bush should busy himself by investigating why that information was then stymied and not capitalized upon to stop the 9/11 attacks.

MOUSSAOUI, FISA, and FBI SURVEILLANCE -- MISUNDERSTANDING #1:

When it comes to the FBI and Zaccarias Moussaoui, one must understand that the FBI met all evidentiary standards to both apply for and be granted a FISA warrant. The information the FBI had to support their FISA request was two files on Moussaoui that were given to the FBI by the French and British intelligence services. Inexplicably, FBI lawyers and supervisors at FBI HQ "misunderstood" the evidentiary standards needed to apply for and receive a FISA warrant, and they refused the FISA request from the FBI agents in Minneapolis. Thus, the Moussaoui search warrant paperwork was never submitted to the FISA court. One need only read Colleen Rowley's memorandum to confirm these facts.

snip

None of the FBI lawyers and/or supervisors responsible for this glaring error and "misjudgment" has been held accountable.

1. Kick for Kristen Breitweiser and the Jersey Girls
>None of the FBI lawyers and/or supervisors responsible for this glaring error and "misjudgment" has been held accountable.<

Nobody's been held accountable for any of the failures on 9/11, and I'd like to know why.

Kristen and the Jersey Girls are my heroes.

Julie

2. Laurie Van Auken names names.
Unofficial transcript of Laurie Van Auken’s statement at the July 22nd Congressional Briefing: The 9/11 Commission Report One Year Later: A Citizens’ Response – Did They Get It Right?

What is missing from this analysis and rather facile conclusion was that it was two individuals, who worked together, and not a ‘misunderstanding of the Reno wall’, that is to blame for the failure of the FBI to receive a FISA warrant in the case of Zacarias Moussaoui. It is likewise those same individuals who are responsible for the Phoenix Memo being downplayed and all but ignored.

FBI supervisor David Frasca and his underling, Michael Maltbie failed to permit FBI agents to request a FISA warrant for Moussaoui but also altered the agent’s initial request for it. Specifically, on August 28th, 2001, Maltbie edited the Minnesota FBI’s request for a FISA warrant to search Zacarias Moussaoui’s possessions. The Minnesota FBI’s field office wanted to prove that Moussaoui was connected to Al Qaeda through a rebel group in Chechnya. But the RFU agent Maltbie removed the information connecting the Chechen rebels to Al Qaeda.

Subsequently, the FBI General Counsel who received the edited request, scrubbed clean of any international terrorist ties, decided that there wasn’t enough of a connection between Moussaoui and Al Qaeda to allow for an application for a search warrant through FISA.

Thus, a FISA warrant was never even applied for.

According to Van Auken, these men have been promoted.

9. Not that I know of, but the main thing now is WTC7
Edited on Thu Jan-05-06 09:04 PM by EVDebs
Wasn't hit by a plane, was between the main buildings, the Twin Towers and another building which didn't fall, and yet it too collapsed at after 5pm when the Twin Towers each fell at around 10am. Some see the owner and NYFD being in on the 'pulling' of this building for insurance purposes, as Allianz stockholder notification demonstrated.

Unsettling facts when you realize that it takes more than 7 hours to set up a building for demolition, if indeed 'pulled'. Some call this a 'smoking gun'.

Other unsettling facts revolve around the wargames of 9-11 and the Saudi software firm with intell/FAA access, Ptech. Whistleblower Indira Singh knows about much of this.

Also, FAA Air Marshal program had only 33 marshals as of 9-11-01. Today there are 'thousands'. Why didn't Bush beef up this program prior to 9-11 in light of the Aug 6 PDB ?

More for the case of incompetence, or complicity. Either one is very bad.

10. They're very brave
I think they're very brave and they've helped with a lot with 9/11. God bless them for it. I'd like to see Bush attack her. Heh.

13. Rice's worst nightmare.
Condi lied to the faces of the 9/11 widows (under oath) when she said the 8-6 PDB
did not warn of upcoming attacks. She's got some heavy karma coming.
