| Question - how can we logistically pull troops out? |
|
I've been considering the logistics. Since our troops seem to be isolated is a sea of angry Iraqis, it seems like it may be very hard to move them out without some very careful planning and precision execution. And then there will probably still be many killed. And what about the contractors? God, what a mess these assholes have put our troops in.

While we call for withdrawal- and God knows I want us out tomorrow - withdrawing may be one of the toughest things we can do. And with the clowns we got for leaders, they couldn't plan recess for kindergarten.

At some point - these guys are going to become very vulnerable...
I doubt they can go out the way they came in -
I certainly don't wish for it - but I've always been afraid the insurgents or whoever could score a huge kill on our guys...like a few hundred at once. Seems more probable as we leave...

I doubt that Iran will give us refuge. It's like someone will have to plan an escape from Alcatraz.

First things first: get the word Insurgent out of your vocabulary. That's the cruelest Bushism/RW talking point of all. These people are not insurgents. An insurgent is a "rebel not recognized as a belligerent," according to Webster. The force that is fighting our soldiers in Iraq does not consist of rebels. They have a chain of command. They have proper equipment, and they have adequate training--because the force that is fighting our soldiers is Saddam Hussein's army, which Bush fired en masse right after he stole the country.
These guys have artillery. I'm going to take a wild stab and assume they also have cavalry who know what an American counterbattery radar looks like. If their guys take out our firefinder radars, they can shell any one of our base camps with almost no worries about getting shelled themselves. Do it at night, and they can take out several thousand troops at once.
And if it happens, the first thing out of Pigboy Limbaugh's mouth will be "Clinton." You know it will.

out tomorrow. If we announced that we were leaving as long as no one fucked with us and then we really began leaving, we could do it. It really isn't that hard - just do the reverse of what we did in March '03...

| 14. Retreats are very difficult to execute, but |
|
professionals are trained in how to properly conduct them.
You phase your withdrawel from staging area to area. You set up rear guards. You attack as diversions to keep pursuers off balance.
To see an expert retreat, read of Lee's retreat from Gettysburg. For a badly done one, there's Napolean's retreat from Moscow. For a well executed retreat that still ended in disaster, there's Lee's retreat to Appomattox.
Our generals have studied each of them and will do it with as much professionalism as they can if called upon.
