1. Trotskyism is communist Christianity
Murdered redeemer, et al. The only thing it's lacking is the rising-from-the-dead aspect.

It was popular in Europe and some parts of the US back when Blair and Hitchens were pups.

The very idea they could do anything with that data is outrageous. There's just too much. They just want us to feel bullied.

2. Trotsky had deep seated contempt for democracy
which is probably the part both men adore.

Someone posted another link earlier, seems Blair let his fundie side slip out and the Brits are not amused.

"It is a bizarre and shocking revelation that the prime minister claims to have been guided by the supernatural in this matter, especially given the particular religious sensitivities in the Middle East," said Evan Harris, a Liberal Democrat member of parliament from the Oxford area, who is an honorary associate of the National Secular Society.

"We don't want Bush or Khomeini-type fundamentalism in our politics," he added.

7. to be completely fair...
Trotsky, compared to Stalin, was a promoter of "rule by the people". If Bush is Stalin (and he is), Trotsky was John McCain (in political proportionment only).

Anywhere you see "isms" cropping up, you'll have one fairly good student at center and a whole lot of mediocre ones surrounding it.

13. To be fairer, Trotsky advocated rule by the people in the Party
which makes a comparison to any GOP party luminary appropriate, since they're all working to exclude Democrats from any of the decision making processes in this country.

The Stalinists are on talk radio, speaking openly of their hatred for everyone in the Democratic Party and their desire to see half their countrymen imprisoned, deported, or executed.

14. Just want to say how much I appreciate the comparison to Stalinists
reference to Trotsky and always support reference to the Soviet system.

That is what we need to mention in comparing Bush, Rove GOP'ers and not Hitler, IMO.

18. It does seem odd to me
maybe someone could explain it better - how it is that so many neo-cons are ex-Trotskyites.

I looked online what Wikipedia had to say about Trotsky and Trotskyism and it doesn't explain that.

Or this on the site about neoconservatism:

"The forerunners of neoconservativism were generally liberals or socialists who strongly supported the Second World War, and who were influenced by the Depression-era ideas of former New Dealers, trade unionists, and Trotskyists, particularly those who followed the political ideas of Max Shachtman (A number of future neoconservatives such as Jeane Kirkpatrick and Ken Adelman were Shachtmanites in their youth, while others were later involved with Social Democrats USA. Most neoconservatives, however, including those who have been close to SDUSA, will strenuously deny, even contrary to evidence, that they were ever Shachtmanites."
