Peter King's opposition to Duubai deal has him grounded!
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/030406X.shtml

Washington - Representative Peter T. King's prominent opposition to a proposal to allow a Dubai company to take over some terminal operations at American ports may have earned him some punishment from the Bush administration: He has been grounded.

Mr. King, the New York Republican who is chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, confirmed Friday that a few days after he first threatened legislation to hold up the port deal, the Pentagon informed him that it could not provide an aircraft for his planned March Congressional delegation to Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East.

A Feb. 22 e-mail notice to Mr. King's office said the legislative affairs branch of Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld's office had determined "they do not have any aircraft to support" the official trip to Baghdad and other points. "Please advise if the CODEL will now pursue commercial air," it concluded, referring to the Congressional trip. Mr. King said he did not know if the paucity of aircraft was related to his leading role in the port dispute, but he was suspicious.

"It is very coincidental," said Mr. King, who talked reluctantly when pressed about the canceled trip, which had first been unintentionally disclosed by another lawmaker. Mr. King said that he did not intend to make an issue out of it or allow it to affect his stance in the port dispute.

1. Please make him vote on the issue.
I think he will vote with Bushco. He's done that for the last 5 years.

4. He's under pressure at home, dems encroaching on repub territory,
and as more time passes he may start to back away if his voters don't press him HARD. Even then... If he does stand by this position I'd have to revise my opinion of him and somehow I don't think that'll be necessary.

2. Maybe this will force him to reconsider
his role as a loyal water carrier in the * sunday morning pundit propaganda parade. It's encouraging that he says he won't back off his opposition to the Dubai deal but I guess we'll just have to see.

3. I don't know how he'll finally vote, but on TV all this week he's
been very adamant against this deal! I was actually surprised at his forceful comments.

5. He was very adamant against Clinton's impeachment
He was all over TV then too. He printed full page ads in all the local newspapers listing his reasons against impeachment. Bottom line, then and now, King is just preaching to the choir among his constituents.

He is up for reelection soon and the finger in the wind says he is not a shoo in this time. Being against the ports deal will not be looked upon unfavorably among the majority of his constituents living 30 miles or so from New York City Ports.

When push comes to shove, all politics is LOCAL.

6. Oh, I agree, I just wonder how many Pubs he can keep with him.
I've heard several talking heads say if the Port deal goes through, the Pubs are going to loose a lot of seats in Nov.
