Mississippi to Pass "Rapist Rights" Bill (- FireDogLake)
http://firedoglake.blogspot.com/2006_02_26_firedoglake_archive.html#114133470653769364">Mississippi to Pass Rapist Rights Bill...

As a direct result of Samuel Alito's confirmation to the Supreme Court, Mississippi now falls in line behind South Dakota to pass a Rapist Rights Bill:

Gov. Haley Barbour said Wednesday he would probably sign a bill under consideration in the state House that would ban most abortions in Mississippi.

The measure, which passed the House Public Health Committee on Tuesday, would allow abortion only to save a woman's life. It would make no exception in cases of rape or incest.

"Rapist rights!" Now that's a pretty good soundbite.

3. abortion providers should just report that the patient is suicidal
they can say their medical judgment is that the patient would kill themselves if they didn't get an abortion.

if they're going to pass bu**sh** laws, we should exploit every conceivable loophole.

7. Unfortunately
women who tried to use that would wind-up locked-up under "psychiatric observation" for the duration of the pregnancy.

9. i'm not suggesting that for the women, i'm suggesting the doctors do it.
the women can deny it and refuse psychiatric treatment.

12. Probably how women got the "neurotic" label
in the first place, having to make mental disorder claims in order to get an abortion.

I like framing this law with that term, that is. I don't like the law of course.

5. So it looks
like the wise:sarcasm: folks of Mississippi would rather see an 11 yr old carry her daddies or (brother, uncle) baby, than risk their abortion ban being over-turned again.

6. Now THAT'S what I call "framing!"
Someone's been reading George Lakoff and putting his stuff to good use. Absolutely brilliant!!

For those too young to have seen it, check out the movie "Deliverance." The movie was in Georgia, but you get the idea.
