Californians must be SO proud of their governor
Governor to star as gladiator 'god'
He'll appear in Ohio at blood-and-guts kickoff to fitness expo

It's touted in ads as "pure might battling pure fear,'' a marriage of "raw power and brute force'' complete with girls, guts, blood and plenty of grit.

And while so-called gladiator or ultimate fighting has gained legions of new fans and celebrity supporters nationwide, the planned appearance of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger at a major pay-per-view fight in Columbus, Ohio, this weekend could fire up not only sports aficionados but the governor's critics as well.

That's especially true because Schwarzenegger signed legislation last September paving the way for such fights to be legal in California -- where the first such state-sanctioned card is planned at the HP Pavilion next week in San Jose.

The sport, also known as cage fighting or mixed martial arts, has been blasted by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., as "barbaric" human cockfighting, and New York state banned the practice several years ago after Gov. George Pataki called it a "Neanderthal sport.''

4. I don't see what the big deal is on this.
I enjoy ultimate fighting championships. Arnold is a fucked up dude but I don't see how this is anywhere near as bad as Union Busting. He's making a personal appearance at a fight. So what?

9. Agreed, IMHO it's no worse than boxing
Boxing is a pretty brutal sport, and UFC promoters are quick to point out that more people have died from boxing than through Ultimate Fighting (actually I'm not aware of any deaths resulting from Ultimate Fighting).

5. San Jose?
I would have guessed San Bernardino or Corona would be a bigger draw - don't you inland empire residents blast me either, plenty of people here in Orange County would make the trek.

8. Neanderthal is as Neanderthal does
John "I hate gooks" McCain would probably enjoy it if the combatants were Vietnamese.

11. I'm California born and bred.....
and I can't stand the slobbering idiot. Didn't vote for his sorry ass either. Although I KNOW THAT MOST PEOPLE IN THIS STATE DIDN'T VOTE FOR HIM, I can't believe people who did. That's proof enough there are epidemic drug and mental health problems in the state and the world at large.:banghead:

12. Shouldn't he be...you know, GOVERNING???
That's his fucking job. He made a big fucking deal about what an alleged mess California was when he ran. Well, now he's the governor. I would think he wouldn't have time for stupid shit like this.

14. Yep, this is Jesse Ventura all over again.
I wish we had a law preventing celebrities from running for office unless they have something in their background like law school or a degree in political science besides the egotistical need to screw up something that they know nothing about.

but I guess he's just a girly-man who's afraid to get in the cage with genuine tough guys...
