85% of US troops believe US mission was "to retaliate for Saddam's role in the 9/11 attacks".

This administration is the king of misinformation

Nonetheless, 69 percent of Americans believe that Hussein probably had a part in attacking the United States, according to a recent Washington Post poll. And Democratic senators have charged that the White House is fanning the misperception by mentioning Hussein and the Sept. 11 attacks in ways that suggest a link.

Former senator Max Cleland, who is a member of the national commission investigating the attacks, said yesterday that classified documents he has reviewed on the subject weaken, rather than strengthen, administration assertions that Hussein's regime may have been allied with Al Qaeda.

"The vice president trying to justify some connection is ludicrous," he said.

Nonetheless, Cheney, in the "Meet the Press" interview Sunday, insisted that the United States is learning more about the links between Al Qaeda and Hussein.

intelligence specialists told the Globe last August that they have never confirmed that the training took place, or identified where it could have taken place. "The general public just doesn't have any independent way of weighing what is said," Cannistraro, the former CIA counterterrorism specialist, said. "If you repeat it enough times . . . then people become convinced it's the truth."

2. You know something though...
even with 85% of troops thinking that, 72% say it's time to get out of Iraq. I think that is a great sign!

3. Good point. Imagine what the numbers would say if they knew
the truth.

4. They know the truth, they just choose to believe the lie...
Would you want to have done what they did for a lie? Shit. It's hard enough living with it when it's right. Imagine knowing you killed a person or a child and the reason you did it was because of a lie. That's a hard reality to face especially; if you have any sort of faith. It's a pickle for sure.

8. That was my thought, mike -
It'll be very, very hard to reconcile with the truth when they are in a position to assimilate it.

My ex served 2 tours with the 101st Airborne in Viet Nam. We married in 1978, and he began reading about the conflict from a historical point of view. When he realized that his worldview during his time there was completely challenged by the truth, he had a hell of a time with his conscience.

I read an article somewhere today that said more than 1 out of 3 of our military returning from Iraq and Afghanistan believe they are having mental health problems due to their service. It'll double, or better, when the truth begins to seep in. :(

6. but what leading democrat has come out calling this a "blatant lie" ?
and explained over and over again why they lied ? at certain occasions maybe, and probably not using the word lie.

"Propaganda" must be catapulted from both sides...

9. This speaks to the brainwashing of our military by its leadership.
Most of the enlisted personnel give their body and mind over to the corps. Military leadership have the responsiblity to place honor at the forefront of the service. How can we ask our citizens to do such a dirty job, pay them little and then lie to them.

Our military leadership needs to examined, if not replaced. This is the reason that the military should not engage in politics.
