Michael Brown: I was ‘left on the battlefield’
That's the headline on MSNBC's clip from an interview Brian Williams had with Michael Brown today.

Here's a link and some quotes.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11595834/

Brown: One of the mistakes that I've owned up to was this whole mentality that exists in Washington, D.C. — that you get your talking points. And, by God, you stick to your talking points. And what I should have done was gone to the American people — instead of putting my arm around Governor Blanco and talking about how wonderfully things are working — we should have told them: "This is a disaster of the magnitude that this country has never seen. We are struggling. We're gonna do everything we can to help make this thing better. We're gonna call in all the resources. We need your patience and understanding" — and paint them a realistic picture. You see, I believe that people in D.C. don't believe that the American people can handle the truth.

(snip

Brown: Part of being a presidential appointee is that you have to be willing to fall on the sword for the president of the United States. And, clearly, I either fell on the sword or was pushed on the sword. I'll leave that for others to make that judgment. And so, I think that I was made a scapegoat, in that regard. Most always, though, really, they never leave their wounded or their dead on the battlefield. And, in this case, I'm willing to take the fall for the president, but I wish I hadn't been left on the battlefield.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Does a Presidential appointee really believe they have to be willing to fall on the sword for the POTUS? Hmmmm, I don't believe that!

This footnote was also posted on this site.

You can watch more of this interview Tuesday, Feb. 28 on "NBC Nightly News," including Brown's fears that FEMA will not be able to handle the next natural disaster.

1. Nice restaurants on that battlefield, though
And he suits up for the battle in only the finest of haberdashery.

But somehow, he never made it to the battle.

13. Actually, I think his statements are correct. They really do believe
that if you stick to your "talking points", the public will not notice the problem.

And, I do think they left him on the battlefield.

I don't know if he deserved to be left there, but that has nothing to do with what appears to be the truth of what he said.

4. Methinks, Mikey's little consulting firm is not doing much business.
And, based on his responses to Congress and his whining in this interview, he will be in even less demand. MKJ

8. "Heck of a job Brownie."
Whenever the Silverspoon Sociopath says that one must know that he has a sharp kife ready for back. Brown was incompetent and so was Chertgouhl but Brown was chosen to take the fall.He was foolish to have accepted that job because he should have known that he wasn't qualified to perform it.

6. What a Chicken Shit Asshole...
He probably has never done a decent day's worth of work...While it may be beneficial for that incompetent poop to be bashing the White House, I just wish we had someone with real substance doing it - like can you say, gee, I can't think of any Right Winger that if they bashed BushCo they would make it sound credible, not just a stepping back, I want to keep my job move..brain fart...

7. oh, he's making B*sh look bad (worse) and that's GOOD
Edited on Mon Feb-27-06 10:53 PM by npincus
tonight he talked about how he told Bush on a conference call that he expected 90% of the Gulf residents would lose their homes... and then Bush did absolutely nothing (my words- that was the jist).

oh, Brownie is swinging the wrecking ball at Bu*sh's already fractured reputation.

That's good!

9. I agree. I'm not sure what the RW response is going to be though.
They might have the same response as many DUers did. Brownie is just a woose trying to play CYA.

14. Please, please stop whining
Brownie has an unfortunate choice of words. Remember his emails during Katrina that said he was "trapped now" & "needed rescue" cause he had to do his job - while thousands of people were actually trapped & needed rescue all across NOLA? Now he says he was "left on the battlefield". That's the exact comparison David Brooks made to all the people who were left behind w/o burial in NO. Because, you see, Michael Brown feels like he's truly the real victim here. Brown has a constant whining, self-righteous, & arrogant tone that really gets under my skin. I don't care if he's blaming Bush or Blanco now - he's still an idiot.
