A "protestor?" just ran up to the mike at the closing ceremonies & shouted
something into it as one of the closing speeches was being made, before being grabbed by Olympic authorities and promptly getting escorted off the stage. I wonder what he was screaming about. It was in Italian I guess. Did anyone else see that or know what the guy hollered?

I watched the last hour of the ceremonies, BTW, and they weren't bad. Nothing great, although there's a neat act at the end that's worth seeing involving a wind machine and also some pyrotechnics. Not sure if this thread belongs here or in the lounge, but I was just wondering about the dude in the black sweatshirt who rushed the stage.

3. No, but it caught me so off guard that I wasn't concentrating on
specific words. At the time, it was a real boring moment because there was some higher-up Olympic official giving a speech and I was kind of looking out the window when it happened. I caught it only periferally, but some of the guy's words did come across the mike before they grabbed him. I was wondering the same thing as you, though.

11. Caught him in too many distortions...
But the lack of WMD's in Iraq completely destroyed my faith in the Republicans.

In my sig, there's a link to a previously posted msg which details my 'transformation' but I would ask you to wait until I roll out my upcoming website, http://www.formerdittohead.com

7. I live close to Canada, so I can watch it live on CBC. Their coverage is
so much better than corporate minded NBC's is.

I betcha you'll be right there watching it tonight on NBC, Grannie at 7 PM EST. Otherwise, how you gonna get your latest Olympic nightmare?

The closing ceremony that I liked the most was the one where the flying saucer came over the stadium. I think it was the LA Olympics.

9. Here's some more info
I was watching it on CBC, too. Odd and over very quickly.
Found this at http://www.thecouriermail.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5936,18285621%255E23218,00.html

The Closing Ceremony of the Olympics Winter Games was marred when a protestor rushed the platform during the finishing speeches.

The intruder ran to the stage when the president of the organising committee, Valentino Castellani, was making his closing remarks.

The man, dressed in a black T-shirt, grabbed a microphone and screamed in English, "The Passion", before being hauled away by security staff.

They have a pic of him. He was wearing a Golden Palace t-shirt. Publicity stunt?

12. Thank you, suffragette! I wonder if NBC will be brave enough to show it
tonight.

Good work in finding that. That was quick. The article says that he screamed in English, "The Passion", although it happened so quickly it sounded Italian to me. I didn't see him actually grab the microphone either, just yell into it. I'll have to watch that part again tonight on NBC if they dare show it.

13. Yeah it was so fast and there was no comment on it
It surprised me that they didn't say anything about it after it happened.
Maybe NBC will.
I agree with you on what you said about CBC's coverage earlier. Much better overall than NBC's.

15. Ah, Golden Palace
It's my understanding that Golden Palace (the online casino) is famous for its publicity stunts:

18. haha, that's too funny seeing the guy in his tutu skating around in the
article you posted the link to.

The most outrageous Olympic stunt, though, was the time when Frank Shorter won the Olympic marathon. Only problem was that an impostor, a high school kid, had decided to run ahead of Shorter through the tunnel leading into the stadium to fool the people into thinking he was the winner, and the whole stadium erupted into a roar of approval when the impostor ran a "victory" lap. Then when they finally figured it out and carted him off, everyone booed him for his stunt. That's when the real winner, Frank Shorter, entered the stadium...while the fans were still booing the impostor...only Shorter thought they were booing him even though they were really booing the other guy.

Maybe during the next summer Olympics we can send an imposter into the stadium just ahead of the real marathon winner, only sporting a DU T-shirt. On second thought, that might not be such a good idea, eh.

17. Golden Palace caught NBC off guard during the women's 1000 meter...
speed skating semi-final when they had people hold up signs and there was a streaker during the bronze medal curling match between the US and Great Britain. Good luck seeing either clip!
