"Mercifully, Chad ('We're George Bush people!') Hedrick heads home"
TURIN, Italy – Chad Hedrick's Olympic odyssey is over.

Thank goodness.

The mouthy Texan won the silver medal in the 10,000 meter speedskating race on Friday, adding it to the gold he won the 5,000 and the bronze in the 1,500, his smackdown race with teammate Shani Davis that was won by Italy's Enrico Fabris....

Now Hedrick will drop out of sight for four years – no offense to those of you who follow World Cup speedskating religiously – before bringing his Texas-sized ego to Vancouver in 2010.

That's probably a good thing....

1. Is he the one who's giving his bonus money to charity?
ABC did a Person of the Week segment on a US speed skater who came off as a modest and great guy -- and he never mentioned *! But I can't remember the name....

3. Joey Cheek is something else
that guy is a special person. Seriously. He conducted himself in an exemplary manner all last week and truly did the U.S. proud. We need more like him.

But I've heard he may have politics in his future. I don't know if he's GOP or Dem, but he's from Greensboro, NC. I hope the hometown folks give this guy a big welcome home. He deserves it!

10. in his case it doesn't matter
He's a good man and that's all that matters. If more people both GOP and Dem alike were like this guy then our country and the world would be in good hands.

4. He behaved like a typical American Republican
And I thought he was a self-absorbed conceited ass before he displayed his political leanings by fawning over Laura Bush.

6. Here is even more proof of his Bush-arrogance--- after his last race:
snip>

"My heart is bigger than anybody else out there," Hedrick said. "If another skater had felt like I did today, he wouldn't have been on the podium. That's just me refusing to lose."

Actually, he did lose, finishing nearly four seconds behind de Jong. But in true Hedrick fashion, he talked up his head-to-head battle with Verheijen in the final pairing as though that was the race for gold.

snip>

Verheijen scoffed at Hedrick's strategy.

"I'm glad Chad was thinking about me rather than himself," he said. "Instead of considering how to win the silver medal, he should have considered how to win the gold medal."

Typical Hedrick. The guy who feuded with teammate Shani Davis stirred things up right to the end. The speedskating competition ends Saturday with the women's 5,000.

"He has an attitude we're not used to," Verheijen said.

11. Chad Hedrick was all about 'help me get 5 gold medals'......
Shani Davis was a joy to watch winning (and losing).....it was real. Chad Hedrick is rather fake and about himself.
