"Democrats plan to use Catholic bashing to stop Alito!"
Catholic Priest Advises: "Democrats . . . must abandon their Catholic bashing strategy."

FRONT ROYAL, Va., Jan. 4 /Christian Wire Service/ -- The Rev. Thomas J. Euteneuer, president of Human Life International, issued the following statement regarding the "Catholic bashing" of Supreme Court nominee Judge Samuel Alito:

"The unrelenting campaign waged by many Senate Democrats, some who claim to be Catholics themselves, against Catholic judicial nominees who embrace and practice their Catholic faith is disgraceful at best and at worst is a blatant form of religious bigotry reminiscent of a less civil period of history.

"If these senators continue to Catholic bash in the upcoming nomination hearing for Supreme Court nominee Judge Samuel Alito they will only continue to alienate Roman Catholics who are increasingly frustrated over attacks on those beliefs they hold most dear.

"Religion should never be used as a weapon of discrimination. Democrats and their anti-Catholic allies such as People for the American Way, Moveon.org and Alliance for Justice must abandon their Catholic bashing strategy.

It is time for these Senators—led by the likes of Sen. Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.)—to put an end to this shameful behavior and offer their 'advice and consent' based upon a nominee's proper understanding of our Constitutional law.

"It is in the best interest of all Americans that the Democrat Party stops its relentless attacks on Roman Catholic judicial nominees.

If Schumer and his gang continue to blacklist judges who are practicing Catholic, they will only continue to demean the nomination process while effectively destroying any opportunity for support from Catholic voters."

3. heheh....
"offer their 'advice and consent' based upon a nominee's proper understanding of our Constitutional law."

To that I say:

As long as the Catholic nominee agrees to rule only based upon a proper understanding of Constitutional law.

They REALLY must fear us. To go to such extremes before anyone has done or said anything about their precious Savior, Alito. Wow. Even the Preists have become whackjobs.

5. If they'd stop giving so much god damn fodder
to be bashed with, it might be an easier time for them. I mean, seriously, at least make it hard to dislike you if you are going to bitch about being disliked.

Not catholic bashing - its questioning Alito
There is a huge difference is bashing a religion versus a potential individual radical on the supreme court. Repubs are going to try to portray dems as anti-anyone of faith. Sadly, it often worked in the past and is sometimes true for individual democrats.

8. How about the Catholic Church abandon gay-bashing and democracy-bashing?
Edited on Wed Jan-04-06 04:57 PM by IanDB1
How about The Catholic Church stop telling politicians how to vote?

We oppose Alito because he's a lying, fundamentalist, bigoted crazy whackjob.

I don't care if he worships The Virgrin Mary or The Flying Spaghetti Monster.

He's still a dangerous psycho.

9. Not because he's Catholic
But because he has the worst "work place law" history of any sitting Court of Appeals Judge-
    * Age Discrimination In Employment
    * Americans With Disabilities Act
    * Norris-LaGuardia Act
    * ERISA
      -Interface with Bankruptcy Act
      -Shield for Health Insurance Carriers

These are Catholic Values too (per Msgr Charles Owens Rice)

Disregarding these American - and Catholic - values killed 12 coal miners in West Virginia.

10. Something tells me that this Catholic org didn't advocate voting for Kerry
in the last election. They didn't understand then, and they don't understand now. They are part of the religious right, even though many in the fundamentalist religious right consider Catholics to be idol worshiping blasphemers.

I have a better group to show y'all:

Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Rev. Euteneuer.

11. Nonsense, raised Catholic, I think Alito won't protect individual rights
His religious background has nothing to do with my disapproval of his record of consistently showing insufficient regard for individual rights.
