Damn I wish I could find that post. First SCOTUS excepting the partial birth case and now South Dakota outlawing all abortions. Here it comes folks... Here it comes.

I think they're starting to attack it now and than save some more for 2008. This is the only issue they run on (well now the "threat" of gay marriage) so they'll have to save some for 2008. I think they'll find some way for it to fail for them to keep blaming us.

3. Been under attack since Roe v. Wade.
I think the crescendo will come this year and next year...but the attack is over three decades long. In the next couple of years, Republicans will have to shit or get off the pot...they've got their judges in place now. Do they really want, on a federal basis, to outlaw abortion. Personally, I don't think they have the fortitude to do it.

What's funny is that abortion in the US was a very common procedure (women openly talked about having them in the 19th century--it was no big deal and one of many forms of birth control they used) and only became a thing of shame in the early 20th century, with the introduction of physicians' professional organizations.

4. it will NEVER be solved unless a law is passed in Congress
that regulates abortion with a broad consensus. You cannot leave that stuff to the whim of judges since opinions change according to the guy in charge of the WH...

5. It's the mother of all wedge issues. The mother of all distractions from
really, really important issues to average working Americans. But it has worked thus far for the RW fascists so why stop now?

7. But shouldn't it play out like this: State passes an unconstitutional
law. It gets appealed. It is ruled unconstitutional. Say it gets nixed and appealed at every level. SCotUS then (should) refuse to hear it. End of story.

8. Abortion was under attack the second Dubya was picked by SCOTUS.
That was one of the things I knew we had lost when SCOTUS appointed Bush over Gore to the presidency.
