Katrina Aftermath Recommendation: Major Military Involvement
Edited on Thu Feb-23-06 12:55 PM by sparosnare
This morning, I listened to that woman who prepared the WH's report on Katrina explain some of her recommendations . Ever since, something's been bothering me a lot. One of her recommendations is to give the military a much larger role in disaster response. She stated that the national guard would still be involved, but that the plan is to get active duty military involved as a key component.

Isn't this a no-no? Isn't there something called "posse comitatus"?

Of course my mind started doing flips with thoughts of a man-made disaster, martial law and detention centers.

With the way things are in this country right now - I can't help but think of worse-case scenarios. :hi:

4. I wonder if the media will be allowed in for the next debacle
Better look over this report media whores, because not only will the the military declare martial law, there will be no more Brian Williams in the Superdome type reports. This has disaster written all over it!

5. If anything they should put together a team of civil engineers
Edited on Thu Feb-23-06 01:35 PM by EC
and tradesmen that can go into these areas (we know there will be more of them with the weather changes - getting more and more violent)and do clean-up and rebuilding. This will also give good paying jobs to tradesmen and unskilled workers. The military should not be used for this...as evidenced in Iraq, they cannot re-build, it was a dumb idea in Iraq, it would be a dumb idea in the states...(We all know this is a ** move to take control one state at a time)

7. wouldn't it make more sense
to roll FEMA back to the type of agency it was under the Clinton administration, where it seemed to work pretty well? Oh wait, we're not looking for a solution that might actually help people, the goal was to find one that would help Bush.

8. They said "The Pentagon" would have the primary role
if the Feds needed to get involved when locals couldn't handle everything. That's how I heard it.
