Ask them why, in their opinion, did Bush threaten *his first* veto if Congress tried to reject this deal, and then the next day the WH announces that Bush never knew about the deal? What does this say about Bush?
There are several possible responses, and getting folks to utter them while the scales have fallen (potentially very briefly) from their eyes, might get the 'awakening' moment to stick a little longer.
Possible responses:
a) He reacts quickly and aggressively to any criticism - sometimes without any information. *lingering thought... this guy has his fingers close to the red button... and maybe that UK story about his wanting to fly fake "UN" planes to provoke an Iraqi attack might be true... (and many other unnerving thoughts per what such a person might react to and do.)
b) He has such misguided faith in the cronies he puts into positions that he is willing to risk his political capital to show that faith that they could never be wrong *lingering though... could this explain going to war with no plan for after the invasion?... could this explain "great job Brownie"... does this man ever question his judgement... didn't he stammer and stumble upon the question of whether he could even think of a mistake he might have made as president? Could this man ever reverse a policy that might not be working... does he even care?*
c) He wouldn't have threatened the veto if he hadn't known about it *lingering thought... credibility... what else has he lied about while selling himself as a straight shooter who 'says what he means and does what he says?'
Many other responses with lingering thoughts (please add). The point is that rather than ranting - just put those two items together per the veto threat, then the "he didn't know about it" item - and ask the freep types to fill in the blanks per explanations. Yes, a few might go into the "he must know more than the rest of us..." or "its not a big deal" lines - but it seems that those denial lines are very hard for folks who have had their loyalty to bushco bonded upon the perpetual fear of terrorism sold by bushco.
