If they would have just gave it to them outright and there would be no fuss, except for we liberals. The damage this is doing to * is amazing, to me it seems that the impeachment drums beat louder everyday.

4. I think this is unlikely.
First of all, when Halliburton wants a deal, they just ask for it. When has anyone ever stopped Halliburton from getting a contract for anything? If the WH really wanted Halliburton to have the contract instead of the UAE, they would have blocked the ports deal (easy enough to do, since they control the committee that has to approve it) and used that as their excuse (if they thought they needed one). It would have gained them many xenophobia points with their base and made Halliburton happy to boot.

Instead, this happened. The simplest explanation, and the one I believe, is that nobody on his team thought anyone would care. International companies acquire each other all the time. Most Americans know virtually nothing about what these ports are or how they operate. There's no reason anyone in Bush's cabal would ahve expected this to become a story except in the small print in the WSJ. Since they don't actually give a shit about the war on terror except as a pretext, nobody on the Bush team is going to think, "Hey, maybe people might be concerned that our ports are now being operated by a company owned by the government of the UAE." They're thinking, "Well, let's stamp this fucker, make some investors happy, and we can all go out for a beer afterwards."

Occam's razor, folks. I recommend it.

C ya,

The Plaid Adder

6. You're right. I'd like to know who sent this story to the tv news
This story's been out there since November, when the UAE corp made its initial bid to P&O. But as you say only in small print newspaper busniess section articles. It's odd to find the corporate media splashing this all over the tube - the only place most Americans get their news blurbs.

Why now?
Wonder whose idea it was to give the corporate media its marching orders.
