Pigs get Slaughtered
Edited on Wed Jan-04-06 11:45 AM by stop the bleeding
I posted this earlier under a different title and have yet to receive an answer. If it dies this time without an answer then I will assume that Abramoff will be the only Lobbyist to sing.:sarcasm:

"Abramoff is a hub on a wheel with spokes radiating out in all directions"

Heard this on NPR and from the threads/news that I have seen here/Chris Matthews thread and other places, Abramoff will lead in all directions we are talking about everyone.

But there is one thing that I have missed or has been absent in my readings and that is:

How many more Lobbyists are gonna go down, and who are they gonna take with them? After all, I keep hearing how "K Street" is the 4th arm of the Government, so if Abramoff is laying "Golden Eggs" also heard on NPR won't these eggs lead to more Lobbyists squealing like little pigs. Won't these pigs lead to more pigs, more than the one's I highlighted in the above links including and beyond the current "possible public figures"???

Two things I know about pigs is they wallow in their own shit and more importantly in this context is that they always get slaughtered.

But how many more pigs are out their to wallow and to get slaughtered?

I added this part later after responding below, but it is appropriate here as well.

look at from this angle, Abramoff was one of the most connected personson Capitol Hill, right? Well that means not only is he connected to public officials he is also very connected and very KNOWLEDGEABLE of what else goes on with K street.

We know Abramoff is gonna sing and get "Public Officials" indicted, but the question that needs to be asked is how many more of his "K Street" Colleagues were involved in his dealings and what else does he know about that whole 4th arm of the government.

Think about it for him to act completely on his own with no one else knowing what he was up to is crazy, in fact I am betting that he has direct information on other Lobbyists and how they got "Business" done on K street, more than just "normal dealings in DC" that you alluded to in the above post.

This could be the tip of the ice-berg.

3. How did Abramoff get caught?
Edited on Wed Jan-04-06 11:32 AM by Jim__
There is another thread on DU Here that indicates it was somewhat of a fluke. Someone's jilted finacee went to the authorities. If that's true, then I wouldn't expect any other lobbyists to get caught.

It looks to me like the government in DC is a complete cess pool. If a lobbyist gives a million dollars (through various methods) to a campaign and only suggests that he'd like to see some legislation passed, this is accepted as fine. Without an explicit tit-for-tat; there is no crime. The Senate and House both seem willing to accept this situation.

In other words, our government is so corrupt that anything but a bribe explicitly labelled as a bribe is accepted as OK. And, apparently everyone plays along. It seems Abramoff's big mistake was that he explicitly labelled his bribes; and, someone went to the authorities with the black and white evidence - otherwise - Abramoff would just be another player.

I wouldn't expect any other lobbyists to go down.

5. I don't know, but it will be interesting to watch
and find out. I worry that the prosecutors may have been told to tread lightly. Personally, I wish there were legislation in place making it illegal to pay people for lobbying others.

7. As much as I might wish it to be so,
it is in the government's interest to keep the scope as narrowly drawn as possible.

I'm afraid this will wind up being Whitewater, inverted. Instead of a constantly expanding investigation where there was no crime in the first place, I expect to see a dismissing and rejecting of all criminal evidence that might be uncovered if it has no direct relevance to the particulars of this case.

Remember when we thought that the Enron scandals would shake this administration to its core? With so much of the administration connected to the energy industry, there hasn't been so much as a tremor.

I'll believe it when I see it.

9. Well, seriously, the thread title gave no hint of content
Put the word 'lobbyist' in there somewhere and you'll get more attention.

Yes, one domino can start an avalanche until they all fall over on each other.
