Bush Says U.S. Won't Be `Held Hostage' by Oil Nations (Update2)

Feb. 20 (Bloomberg) -- President George W. Bush said the U.S. needs to reduce crude oil imports and diversify its energy consumption so the world's largest economy isn't ``held hostage'' by oil-rich countries that may not be allies.

``Some of the nations we rely on for oil have unstable governments or fundamental differences with the United States,'' Bush said today at battery maker Johnson Controls Inc. in Milwaukee. ``These countries know we need their oil, and that reduces influence.''

Crude oil climbed the most in a month in London today after rebel attacks in Nigeria reduced output by Africa's largest producer by 19 percent. The attackers threatened to extend their campaign to the entire Niger River delta. While the U.S. has friendly relations with Nigeria, the Bush administration has raised concerns about the country's political stability.

10. We invaded Iraq. We're about to invade Iran. NEWSFLASH, Mr. Bush:
We ARE being held hostage by oil nations! We're stuck in Quagmire 1 and about to be stuck in No. 2. Islamic terrorism is largely fueled by our actions in the Mid-East, largely related to our oil addiction. (oh, there I go "blaming America" again!)

These problems are largely the result of you and your ilk (as is our "addiction"). Not the terrorism per se, but our diplomacy (or lack thereof) and how we choose to deal with the world regarding terrorism, and oil.

Save the environmentalist spiel. Are you channelling Al Gore now? If you ever go in front of another unscripted audience, you'll be lucky if they don't laugh you off the podium.

11. In the 2000 campaign, Bush* and Cheney* both said that "we know
how to talk to the oil producing countries. We speak their language. Trust us."

In 2006: We need to be independent of foreign oil (Gore's point in 2000).

I guess that we spoke their language and they told us to "fuck off!" I guess that Shock and Awe didn't awe them!

Iraq proved that we aren't so tough!

16. Too late Goofball
Had we not trashed Carter and sent ole Baker over to get the ayatollah to hold on to the hostages, his conservation/alternative energy plans would have put us on a totally different road..

Instead we got St Ronnie, who had NO understanding of what his underlings were actually doing in his name.. he was the first real "figurehead" president, and we are still suffering from the behind-the-scenes skulduggery.
