Amsterdam red-light district hosts open house
AMSTERDAM - Amsterdam’s famed red-light district held its first ever “open day” on Saturday as its peep-shows and brothels gave crowds of wide-eyed visitors free entry to help shed the area’s increasingly negative reputation.

Armed with a list of 25 establishments opening their doors and flinging back their red curtains, hundreds of tourists and locals seized the opportunity to see a prostitute’s bedroom, watch a brief live peep-show or chat to a lap dancer.

1. Isn't it funny
how sex seems to tantilize us as a species? I sometimes wonder what it would have been like if we hadn't evolved to be sexually active all the time, but only had a rutting season....

5. That's an interesting question
I wonder if the urge to pair bond would be as great then, or only for procreation.

Do you think there would be "rutting clubs" where people in season would congregate?

6. I wouldn't be surprised
I'm not sure about the pair bonding, either. I do know that all the violence and stuff would probably be relegated to rutting season....and think of how the film industry would be different! Would porn only sell "in season" because otherwise no one took an interest? What about romances or comedies of regular film?

8. there are pair bond and non pair bond species
seems like it could go either way

i know a little abt parrots and even tho they only mate in season, there are many species such as amazona where the pairs stay together all the time, yet there are a few species such as psittacula where there is no pair bond

if there was no pair bond, seems there could be no romance but there would still be porn for those in season

i guess film and tv would just have to be abt themes of crime, violence, capers...oh wait a minute

3. Good for them!
As you may know I have been a sexworker's rights activist most of my life. I think it needs to be a legal profession as much for the protection of the workers as for simple considerations of their human right as adults to consent to sex or not consent to sex for any reason that seems appropriate to them.

4. Imagine if we lived in a world that was not dominated by antiquated
religious dogma? What would we use to sell each other useless crap?

11. I'll never forget when the Navy ship I was on went to Rotterdam
Holland. The year was 1972 and here I was a 21 year old sailor in the prime of my life.. Amsterdam was only a few guilders and a short train ride away. Every night for two wonderful weeks I took the train ride..

I highly recomend the window shopping in Amsterdam..

12. I give it 5 stars too.
I was there in 1979. Whoeeeeee. What a candy factory. It's like shopping for bread. You just go down the aisle and pick out what you want. It was like $15.00 per stop. I stopped quite a lot.

I remember it was funny walking through the maze of corridors in some of the sex bars, Elvis Presley music was always blaring out of the speakers.

Another thing I remember is what it said in a book I got before I strolled through the area. Whatever you do, don't take pictures in the red light district. They don't take kindly to it. The canals are filled with cameras...and CAMERA MEN !! lol.
