"the Great Sport of Quail Hunting... Accidents DO and WILL happen."
So sayeth the Whittington earlier today.

I never realized how dangerous a sport it was before. Then again, I have never been hunting with a politician, much the less a Republican. Listening to his press conference, I would have to think that shooting your hunting buddy must be a pretty common thing in this "sport."

1. I've been hunting pheasant and quail for over 40 years
Never "peppered" anyone or been "peppered". Maybe that's because the birds I've been after weren't pen raised (read tame) & had their wings clipped. Just sayin'

11. I've been a hunter for 55 years and have never once been involved in or
even been NEAR an 'accident.'

Well, I've accidentally 'missed' a few times. ;-)

2. I'll see that pretty stupid phrase... .and raise you one more...
when hunting with an imbiber, a recipient of two DUI's, an aging fellow.... bring your body armor just for sh*ts and giggles.

4. No such thing as an accident
Only moments of stupidity and irresponsibility.

Yeah, I've had a whole helluva lot of them.

Just sayin', for the "personal responsibility" crowd. Lucky they had insurance or they'd be picking pepper out with tweezers. No wait, old Whitty would be D-E-A-D.

7. Hunting accidents aren't all that rare.
This link was posted yesterday by jody.

http://www.ihea.com/docs/Incident_Reports1

It's a summary of hunting accidents by State, by year.

I only looked at one year, but I was quite surprised at how many accidents there are! Most are blatant stupidity and carelessness!

12. In 2003, there were 6 accidents in TX reported while Quail Hunting...
Couple that with Whittington's comments, I would have to speculate that 18 people went quail hunting one time each that year.

Not that rare at all and it takes a brass pair of balls to be man enough to go out and hunt those evil beasties!

9. Here in the great mouth breathing T of Pa. they are all laughing.
Almost EVERYONE hunts here in western pa.All the comments I hear is followed by "he should put the beer down before he sights in" or "they raise some piss poor shots in wyoming" etc.The mouth breathers here are totally agape at dead-eye dick. Not a single hunter I have ever talked to has been "peppered" Well unless they were stealing corn from a farmers field and got it with rock salt.

10. Since it *IS* that dangerous...
why is it still legal? Repukians have no respect for life so they just don't give a damn about protecting us from people that would harm us.

14. you can't outlaw everything that's dangerous!
If you did that, you'd have to eliminate cars, skiing, sky diving, mountain climbing, bungee jumping, but most especially CARS! They do a whole lot more damage and kill more people than hunting ever did!
