Hey Bill O'Reilly...
It's "M.I.6" in Britain, not "M One 6".

The "M.I." Stands for "Military Intelligence".

You would think someone who makes a living disseminating "information" would make at least a transparent effort to do some research of basic facts. Lucky for you, your audience is even more stupid than you are (which is quite a feat).

1. I actually thought it was the Ministry of Intelligence with
MI6 being for foreign intelligence and MI5 domestice UK intelligence. I could be wrong, though.

And from what I understand he's played a lot of "Blitzkreig".

10. I hear that O'Liely has quite a collection of the plastic green army men
that he dumps out and plays with. Destroys them with a LMD: Loofah of Mass Destruction.

13. He wasn't. He likes to say "I was in combat" referring to an...
assignment(s??) he did as a reporter in Central America.

Al Franken plays a clip of him bloaviating about torture. I'm paraphrasing: "hey, listen. I was in combat and if it's a guy in my unit captured and this detainee knows where he is, well, I'm gonna use torture"......or words to that effect.

Tough guy fantasy bull-shit talk.

A listener called in to his show to call him on it. It was beautiful. Of course O'lielly hung up on him after having a conniption.

15. See post #13. Media matters or C&L may have the clips.
They are worth the listen. He tries to insinuate that he was in the service and when a caller gets past the screeners to nail him on it he has a melt-down. It was on his radio show.

9. I dunno. Aren't all the British "cabinet" positions called ministries?
I just know 5 and 6 are intelligence. I'm guessing MI5 is like the FBI and MI6 is like the CIA. Tony Blair is the Prime Minister and aren't his underlings also ministers. i.e. Jack Straw is the foreign minisiter.

In the Bond films, M was the head of MI6 because he or she (Judy Dench) is the Minister.

14. MI5 is domestic, and MI6 is foreign.
They're not Ministries. They're branches of the the Home Office and the Ministry of Defense.

Ministries are similar to US "Departments", ie Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Health, and so-forth. Some of them are no called "Departments" instead of Ministries.

The "Minister" is relatively the sae position as the "Secretary" of any department in the US system.

The biggest difference is that the Ministers are elected Members of Parliament, so if they lose their seat in an election, they also lose their Ministry position.

11. There were other MI divisions
Ask MI5:

2. What happened to MI1 - MI4?

There were a number of departments within the Directorate of Military Intelligence (up to MI19) which dealt with a range of issues. For example, MI1 was responsible for codebreaking, MI2 handled Russian and Scandinavian intelligence, MI3 dealt with the rest of Eastern Europe and MI4 looked after aerial reconnaissance. The responsibilities of these departments were either discontinued or absorbed into The War Office, MI5 and MI6 and, later, GCHQ.
