Yeah, we used to get Randi during that time....it's a weird deal. I live in the broadcast area, and I used to get the normal AAR deal(very weak range). Now, I don't think they broadcast at night anymore, and Randi is either on at six, or not on at all. But I don't think we get the majority report or any of that jazz.
Of course, I now have Sirius, which rocks, and they have a left channel, and three right wing ones. Those are alright, I guess. It's weird they would bump Randi, she seemed alright. And I know I can listen online...but I prefer music to talk at home...so....

and can't even get that station in my car the reception is so weak. My husband can get it during the day in his car, but at night, it's gone. I "think" the station owner chooses what to air and that's why Schultz is on? Not sure though. Randi Rhodes ROCKS and Mike Malloy is one of THE BEST radio personalities I've ever heard. Maybe trade your Sirius in for XM? That's what I did. I couldn't live without my LIBERAL AAR.

AAR was on Sirius for a while. Plus, SIRIUS has Stern. and Schultz. Who no one likes. Oh well. Rachel Maddow(sic?) and Randi are my two favorite AAR peeps, and I could do without the rest of the programming. If I wanted to hear amaturer liberals bitching about the government, I can hang out with my friends. And I do. Randi and maddow manage to entertain me, and seem to know their way around a microphone. The rest(except Malloy, who I find too extreme and angry) just stumble over their own words, or are boring. Or both. But that's subjective, at best.

I'm just praying he doesn't have a damn heart attack! Both XM and Sirius works too. I stopped listening to my Sirius after AAR left. I'm not crazy about Springer, Franken is great when he doesn't have his RW Rush Limpballs supporter on, Majority Report is GREAT, Sam Seder ROCKS...knows his stuff too, Randi is just the QUEEN of radio and then Malloy.... He speaks for me. I'm ANGRY too.

You don't strike me as the angry type. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Malloy is also pretty funny when he wants to be....
Besides, getting angry with Bush always seemed like a waste of time. It's sort oflike getting mad at a handicapped kid for peeing on your shoe. I save most of my anger for the people that voted for him, and worse, those that didn't vote at all.

|
I don't care if he is a liberal or a progressive or a democrat or a "lefty", as he likes to call it. And I don't mind when these radio hosts rag on the dems because they surely deserve it.
But I do mind when they rag on a dem who has proven to be the only one with balls on this matter. And his only reason is because the bush administration will use his words against him. And it's not like Schultz just stated his opinion and moved on. No, he dedicated his whole show to it. That is just what Rush Limbaugh would do, overhype a simple statement in the hopes that the media will run with it.
And it's not like there is nothing else going on in the world of politics. There is that guy Abramoff who is threatening to expose a multitude of republican politicians for corruption.

and he took offense by those who suggest that he is not. I am not familiar with his web page (yesterday was the only time that I have been there--I had to give him a piece of my mind) to know if he has an archives or not. He was quite clear though, in identifying himself as a liberal.

You've apparently never listened to his show.
He starts off just about every show with RNC talking points. The last time I listened, he started off with the talking point, identified it as nothing more than a diversion, and then spent the rest of the show talking about it.

Then he spent the show talking about FISA and explaining the issue. The Murtha line is dissappointing, but most of the time, he's very reasoned.

And never mind he supported Cindy, and gives several of our Dem leaders a forum on which to speak. It was all a clever ruse. But other than that, he's okay. (/sarcasm) I wish we could disagree with someone without feeling the need to denegrate them.

I thought you actually meant the opposite of what you said. I thought I was playing along with your cleverness. No?
What do you mean, blog, not hardly?
Register on his message board. He blogs. Hence, saying he has never seen a blog in his life is rather ludicrous. Hence I thought you were kidding. And so I played along. Didn't think I was disagreeing. Didn't think I was making things up, unless it was that I made up the notion that you might have a sense of humor.
All cleverness aside, do you or do you not think he is a phony? Others earlier in the evening said that they thought he was valueless. In my own kidding way, I was refuting that. He's supported Cindy with his show, and given several Dems a forum that I've yet to hear on other shows. I think it's a shame that both Randi and Mike Malloy don't seem to like him. They are all valuable. I'd rather they didn't get into a war with each other.
Esp. since Ed Schultz is ahead of AAR in the number of stations he's on. Makes me wonder if the DJ's on AAR are getting a touch jealous.

How many times here on DU have I seen "don't tell me who to support/who to vote for", etc. And I've heard Randi talk about trying to get democrats agreeing - like herding cats....we're all so independent-minded and born leaders, we refuse to fall in line behind someone (until it's time to). Republicans, on the other hand, are sheep and will do what they're told, will follow who they're told to follow. If Schultz is criticizing another dem, it's nothing short of what we've seen here....just sayin'. (I'm not spoiling for a fight!)

Ed is a left-leaning centrist. He pretends to be nothing else. But this is really juvenile. Do you ever hear Mike Savage bashing Sean Hannity because Hannity isn't quite as conservative as Savage is? No. Of course not. If one right-wing host prospers, they all do. If someone listens to Rush and really likes hearing that kind of talk, he'll start thinking about listening to other commentators who say the same general kind of thing.
Now, if Malloy bashes Schultz, he turns Schultz fans away from his show, turns Malloy fans away from Schultz's show, and casual listeners just turn the whole thing off in disgust. There isn't the synergy, there isn't the halo effect. Rather than getting a daily dose of Liberal and solidifying our anger towards conservatives, Malloy turns us against our own kind.
Just because someone's rightwards of us doesn't mean they're right-wing. And if they're being a centrist to a liberal audience, they're neither being a hack nor are they "selling out." Rather, they're speaking their mind.

|
They attack in a publicity-stunt manner. Savage attacks them for not being conservative enough, but then backs them in the next show. Kristol takes jabs because of his immense power, but again, at the end of the day they're all friends. Hannity takes a few jabs because he tries to look moderate every once in a while, but they still support him. It's never lasting with them; it's only to look as if there's debate on the right when nothing important is happening. Whenever anything important happens they all come out together and lock ranks.
Now, we have all this Abramoff and NSA business, and we really have a chance to throw the Republicans on the defensive. Were this Rightland, we'd all have stopped our stunt-feuds and gone on the attack. But no, no, we have to attack each other and let the Republicans decide the way this situation is going to be talked about. All we do is just trot Pelosi out in front of CSPAN cameras to recite "Culture of Corruption."

But that Mr. Malloy can often kiss my grits. Schultz may need to remember what side he's on sometimes, but then so does Malloy. Ed will creep too far to the Right, and Mike will creep too far to the left, and we don't need either or both having at people. Ed needs to chill on Murtha, and Dean. Malloy could chill on Kerry.
Perhaps Mr. Malloy and Ms. Rhodes need to look into migrating over to the Jones Network. If they were sold as individual shows instead of as a package on AAR, they might also have as many stations as Mr. Schultz.
And Big Eddie I do believe is a Hillary fan, which might explain why several folks here say he gets on their last nerve.

I understand: I don't care much for Schultz either for that reason, but I would try to get my republican husband to listen to him (as well as any traditional old-school Republicans; I think he has the best shot at converting them). He would DEFINITELY not listen to Malloy, who I like and try to catch as often as I can. And he wouldn't listen to Randi, either. My liberal neighbors across the street can't stand either Malloy OR Rhodes; they like Thom Hartmann (they're in their 70s and can't handle the 'crudeness'). So they all serve a purpose...

Randi used to tell how they met at a broadcaster's convention, and they were both vying for the same job, and he treated her unbelievably rudely. I'll believe Randi over a guy who conveniently converted from a hard right-winger to a right-leaning democrat just 2 or 3 years ago.
He may be sincere in his opinions ( I doubt it), but the right-wing thought process is still there. I do not listen to his program if I can help it. His issues and values don't really resonate with me very much at all.

Ed is poison to Liberal causes, and just because he swears he's a D doesn't make him a Liberal.
Thats just me though and I could live within the same party with him at that. What he did yesterday was beyond the pale, it was slitting the throats and stabbing the backs of all those in the party opposed to the war and this administration, to say otherwise is to have rose colored retinas.
Murtha was our best and most prominent voice to get the hell out of Iraq, Ed just tried to destroy that voice. If you agree that was a good thing than you are backing the wrong people.

Murtha didn't do anything other then voice his opinion. He can defend it or walk away from it, and people can talk about it all they want. I can respect someone for being irritated at him for saying this, as it is discouraging to the troops, but I've never felt people's feelings should take precedent over the truth.

I've listened to them both occasionally, not enough to say for sure, but of the two I'd be more likely to listen to Ed again. I heard Malloy ranting and I heard Schultz speaking sanely. I think Schultz will appeal to more of the "average" folks that we need to appeal to. Plus, from what I've heard, he generally supports Democrats. He may criticize a statement from time to time, but he doesn't go around calling the folks on our side "spineless" and "weasels". That alone puts him way ahead of some of the so-called progressive (who are really radical) radio show hosts.

to hear every one agree with the host. The whole schtick is about playing devils advocate to every point. Welcome to talk radio. Good news, the wind will be blowing the other way tomorrow.

Sometimes I agree with him, sometimes I don't. Don't agree with him here. Don't enjoy his show, and I rarely listen unless I'm flipping through stations and hear something that temporarily catches my interest.
In general, I don't find "talk radio" very worthwhile or informative. Why do I want to tune into someone bitching in an annoying tone of voice about the same things I already know about? Maybe if I didn't have the internet and didn't want to feel alone in my point of view or something, I'd be more inclined to tune in. I wonder why we think we need talk radio so badly. Because the right wingers did it 10 years ago and now we have to do it too? Pfft. It just raises my blood pressure and makes my stress level even higher on the ride home from work. If talk radio can reach undecideds with the liberal message, that's great, but it's not for me. I can enjoy a show like Laura Flanders on the weekend that is informative, but Ed Schultz and even more liberal hosts like Randi or Malloy, forget it. Not my cup of tea except on rare occasions when I'm in the mood for it. But that's all it is: another form of mood music, like listening to metal when you're pissed off or something.

| 83. Tough call - Ed's on AF Radio and perhaps his tirade against Murtha |
|
...has some thing to do with that audience. However, Ed clearly misunderstood Murtha's statement.

| 84. Thats a pretty lame excuse. |

I like how ppl can accept the fact that soldiers can handle war. But they seem to think soldiers can't handle what a TV or radio personality says... I don't think our troops are that damn fragile.

| 89. They get rid of Marin, then replace Randi with hack schultz... |
|
I'm finding myself listening to books on MP3 now more than the radio at drive time.
AAR in Austin is lame. I only listen to Mike Malloy now.

| 105. I said AAR Austin is lame. They cut Randi's show in half... |
|
I have to stomach schultz for the other half. No thanks.

| 103. Ed's show recently started on Armed Forces Radio |
|
Could that have anything to do with his stance on this issue?
