MSNBC: Who's afraid of Dick Cheney? Everyone in the White House...

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11116759/#060215b

Who's afraid of Dick Cheney? Everyone in the White House, or so it seems.

(Dee Dee Myers)

In the 48 hours since Vice President Cheney shot his hunting companion, the bulk of the media outrage and intensity has been focused on the question of disclosure: what did the White House know and when did they know it? And equally importantly, why didn't they tell the press, and by proxy the public?

But as we head into the next phase of this story, which continues to have legs, the question is becoming: Who's in charge of this White House?

Karl Rove, Andy Card and Pres. Bush were all informed about Cheney's accident on Saturday night, and not not one of them picked up the phone, called the Vice President and demanded that he handle the situation in a way that would protect the President.

What are they afraid of? Did Cheney threaten to take away their lunch money?

Who's calling the shots these days? Well, when no one, including the President himself, is willing to call the Vice President to heel, it seems pretty clear that Dick Cheney is in charge. And the rest of the staff, right up to the top, are scared to ask hard questions, let alone demand accountability.

3. 9-11, never forget it was Cheney who ordered a passenger plane shot down.
Edited on Wed Feb-15-06 01:21 PM by Straight Shooter
That was covered up, too, but it was pretty clear if you assembled the facts. Cheney ordered that plane to be shot down, not bush.

(For those unaware of this episode, please Google. I do not have the links.)

ETA: Cheney has always been in charge. It's because of his anti-charisma and health that he was not chosen to run. bush is actually a far more accomplished liar, too.

6. Remember when 35,000 people were evacuated in Washington?
They evacuated a number of buildings because a small plane had strayed into protected airspace. The president was off riding his bike in a park somewhere, and they didn't even tell him until it was all over. And he lets them get away with this!

That was the one that convinced me that Bush has no influence at all. This newest debacle is just further proof, in case you need it.

7. I remember. Dana Milbank wrote that bush was "blissfully unaware."
Apparently bush was "blissfully unaware" about Cheney's criminal negligence this weekend, too.

8. Cheney is, was and always shall be the PNAC liaison inside the WH.
Period.

Cheney was supposed to conduct a search for a veep running mate for Bush. He found himself, because that's what PNAC had always planned. In addition to the "Pearl Harbor-type event" the PNAC signatories long ago said they needed to get their agenda into play in Iraq, they needed all their main dudes in high-up positions in the Bush Admin.

PNAC's Prince of Darkness needed to be second in command, so that the puppet, Bush, that PNAC had pushed into power would have a Prime PNAC-er to pull his strings.

Of course Cheney's always run things. It was the unwritten part of the PNAC agenda.

9. Dick Cheney has ALWAYS been in charge.
Putting Cheney in as vice-president was a stroke of genius for several reasons:

1) Cheney is seen as a PR liability. He has 0 charm, he does not resonate well with the public. He would NEVER have been elected because he just can't command the numbers. Solution = get a stooge, a "mannequin" president who would just act like a president = Bush.

2) The vice-presidential job is essentially meaningless. There is no job description that I know of. The VP is just supposed to be there, in case the President bites the dust. = he's essentially non-governed. He can do whatever he wants. I understand he doesn't have to testify before Congress. He's also the president of the Senate.
*****************

Now, this brings us to the hunting accident. No one notified the press.

Recall last fall, when Katrina struck. Bush was out on vacation. Rice was out shopping for shoes. I don't know where Rove or Andy Card were, but NOBODY RESPONDED. I just couldn't believe it. It's like they were all disconnected from reality.

Where was Cheney? I think he was in Colorado, shopping for a new mansion. It's interesting that the media attacked Bush because it was so blatant what he was doing.

But if CHENEY in fact is running the entire show, then it makes more sense. AND WE ARE IN BIG TROUBLE.
