Take part in the largest climate experiment ever (BBC)
We need the computer power you're not using. Join in the largest climate prediction experiment ever, developed by climate scientists for the BBC using the Met Office climate model.

Your computer can perform billions of calculations a second. Donate the potential you're not using, and take part in the world's largest climate experiment.

more at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/hottopics/climatechange/

Created for the BBC by a consortium of universities and the Met office.

Editorial comment: You're already part of the largest climate experiment ever, even if you're not from New Orleans! Might as well take a more consciously directed role.

Results will be broadcast in May.

Disclaimer: I haven't tried this program myself. It's for Windows XP & 2000, or Linux, systems, only.

1. Distributed computing projects
Many DU members are already involved with folding@HOME.

Some may be interested in switching over once certain team goals have been met.

2. You need a fast computer to get your results into the broadcast in May
I have a 1000Mhz 5 year old PC, and it's going to take it a year of continuous work to complete. But if you have a 3Ghz processor (or multiple processors - I'd hope it can take advantge of that), with a good amount of memory cache, you might get it ready for May, if you leave your computer on permanently. The scientists say they still want results from slower PCs after May.
