And Now, the Pukey Taste After the Snarf

While we came together as a nation to spew beverage from our noses at the news that Cheney shot an old man in the heart, several all-new examples of Bush administration incompetence suction-cupped their way -- ninja-like -- across our ceilings and almost escaped notice.

That doesn't diminish the impact of Cheney shooting an old man in the heart, of course. Let's call this the pukey, acidic taste after one snarfs a drink.

--$431 million in mobile homes -- over 10,000 of them -- intended for Katrina victims have sat unused. You paid for them. Now they'll probably be given away to Britney Spears to house her gaggle of redneck cabbage heads.

--The Bush administration wants to sell off $1 billion in national forest land in order to finance rural education programs in 41 states. For five years. After that? That's the next guy's problem. But I'm sure they could finance the schools with a billion or two from the...

--$7 billion Big Oil Giveaway! Hells yeah! The Republicans are about to give oil companies a $7 billion oil giveaway by not charging royalties for drilling on federal land. This after oil companies like Exxon earned historically huge profits in 2005 -- despite the alleged petroleum crisis that followed Katrina. If we're addicted to oil, and the Bush GOP is giving it away, can they give us all free pot? Please?

--And finally, the GAO announced that the Bush administration has wasted $1.6 billion in often covert propaganda over the course of this six-year nightmare. Imagine what they would've spent if they actually faced any legislative opposition -- whatsoever. But they haven't. The Republicans have enjoyed a free ride. Whatever they want, they get.

Over $9 billion wasted. Gone. Your money... that you earned (Rob Corddry's joke).

Meanwhile, here's some projects being cut in Bush's 2007 budget, according to Tuesday's Washington Post:

...the 2007 budget would eliminate federal programs that support inner-city Indian health clinics, defibrillators in rural areas, an educational campaign about Alzheimer's disease, centers for traumatic brain injuries, and a nationwide registry for Lou Gehrig's disease. It would cut close to $1 billion in health care grants to states and would kill the entire budget of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center.
The budget cuts notwithstanding, can you see it? It stands to reason that a White House and political party which hates government are simply unable to govern. Lump on their pathetic record on national security and war planning (19,000 American casualties in exchange for reelection in 2004) and there you go.

Now indulge me on something after all that math. You know why Cheney shot an old man in the heart on Saturday? Maybe Cheney mistook Harry Whittington -- not for a quail -- but for a human-animal hybrid. That's right, they were hunting the Pig Man:
