7-Year-Old Brings Gun To School

Tollgate Elementary Classmates Bury Weapon In Sand

POSTED: 6:03 pm MST February 13, 2006
UPDATED: 10:14 am MST February 14, 2006

AURORA, Colo. -- Police are investigating how a 7-year-old boy got the loaded gun he brought to school Monday in Aurora.

The 7-year-old Tollgate Elementary School student allegedly brought the 9 mm semi-automatic pistol in his backpack and showed it off to his friends before school, police said.

He then placed the gun back in his backpack and went to class. During lunch, the boy took the gun out, put it in his coat pocket and took it with him to the playground. The student then showed the gun off again to his classmates and four other boys handled the gun, police said.

As one of the boys handled the weapon, he accidentally dropped it on the ground, police said. That's when two boys close by picked up the gun and buried it in the sand.

1. Parents NEED to be charged for this sort of thing.
I have no problem with private gun ownership. Hell, I own guns. I handle and store them RESPONSIBLY. Anyvody who, through negligence, allows a 7-year-old to take a loaded gun to school should be charged with something.

4. From the article:
Because the boy is under 10, he's not facing criminal charges.

However, his mother faces charges of child neglect, reckless endangerment and enabling a child to get a gun.
