Cheney must have shot him at fairly close range
Edited on Tue Feb-14-06 06:47 PM by jsamuel
I talked to someone who knows about bird hunting like the one here and they found nothing wrong with this story except for one thing.

There is no way pellets would get under the skin and into the heart (or a large vein) unless he was MUCH closer than 30 yards. They said that bird pellets wouldn't even dent plastic from that far out.

Edit:
One other thing, if Whittington was walking back to them, then why was he shot on the side of his face and chest? Shouldn't he have been directly facing Cheney?

3. One other point.
It was bitterly cold out that day (high winds from the north), so they were dressed in heavy clothing. Yet, Whittington was shot in the chest (head and neck, too). Through what had to be a heavy jacket. That right there tells me they were closer together than 30 yards.

8. They have said both
30 yards and 30 feet. I note that 30 feet is closer to 30 inches than it is to 30 yards.

Bird shot goes out in a tight pattern that enlargers as it goes. Because it hit the cheek to shoulders, with 200 pellets striking the victim of the VP's gross recklessness, one can safely conclude the shot was closer than originally reported.

10. Yes, especially if the birdshot was able to penetrate a heavy jacket.
The reports claim he was shot in the shoulders/chest. If that's accurate and they reached the skin, that's a powerful blast to get through a heavy jacket.

9. We need one of those "accident reconstruction experts" from Court TV
to do one of those animations. I remember this one case where they totally nailed this guy who said his wife had shot herself. They were able to prove that if she had, given her height and position on her bed, the angle of the gun would have had to be completely different.

Then everything else is wrong too. We have no idea what happened and they shouldn't be able to cover it up any more than you or I would be able to.

19. They should be able to calculate this.
They know it was a Perazzi 28 gauge shotgun. They know what size the pellets were. (We don't, but they do. The pellets are still in the victim.) They know how deeply the pellets penetrated.

They should be able to calculate the distance between the shotgun and the victim.
