"White House finds HUMOR in hunting mishap"
WASHINGTON - The White House has decided that the best way to deal with Vice President
Dick Cheney's shooting accident is to joke about it.

President Bush's spokesman quipped Tuesday that the burnt orange school colors of the University of Texas championship football team that was visiting the White House shouldn't be confused for hunter's safety wear.

"The orange that they're wearing is not because they're concerned that the vice president may be there," joked White House press secretary Scott McClellan, following the lead of late-night television comedians. "That's why I'm wearing it."

The president's brother, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, took a similar jab after slapping an orange sticker on his chest from the Florida Farm Bureau that read, "No Farmers, No Food."

"I'm a little concerned that Dick Cheney is going to walk in," the governor cracked during an appearance in Tampa Monday.

9. They don't *get* to find humor in it. Sorry.
That's what psychopaths do.

Ooooooh. Riiiiight.

But anyway, they don't. It's one thing for us regular folk to find humor in it since most of us are pretty far removed from it. It's one thing for professional comedians to find humor in it because it's their job to do so. It's quite another for the perpetrator(s) to find humor in it. That's not funny. It's straight up cruel.

18. It's OK with me if they joke it up.
All humor contains a core of TRUTH. (It's the juxtaposition of a truth with some extreme mischaracterization that we see as humor, imho.) Thus, the guffaw is very likely to bring that truth to the awareness of the audience. Calling Whittington "collateral damage," calling the ranch "Abu Quail," calling Cheney "Elmer Fudd," and drawing all kinds of inferred parallels to the abuses of this regime merely reminds people of the atrocities most would rather not think about. It's the "spoonful of sugar" that gets the medicine to the brain. For many of the jokes, some ramiliarity of the issues is needed to "get it." That's good, imho. (For the psychopaths, nothing helps.)

19. I have no problem with joking about it in general. None. However, I do

find it in incredibly poor taste for the White House Press Secretary, Jebbie, and their little group thinking they can crack jokes and brush it off like it's all shits and giggles while providing no information about it, while covering it up, and while The Dickster hasn't even made a public statement about it.

But again, I have no problem with it being joked about. I understand humor. Bill Hicks is my frickin' avatar, so I'd hope I'd be able to understand how humor fits into this and many other situations. And I do. I just think that it's at the very least tacky for the people that either did it or are stonewalling about it to poke fun at it. They have no room.

11. It WAS funny.. last night.

When everyone believed the White House that Whittington was not seriously injured, it was hilarious. Now that we know that was a lie, the antics of the White House are morbid at best.

if Whittington dies. Acknowledging the humor in this also acknowledges that Chieney is responsible for everything about this story.

If Whittington dies, they will be responsible for THAT too. People have long memories, and if this occurs, there will be a WHOLE LOTTA 'SPLAININ to do from the Oval Office or else a whole lotta chucking the Veep outta the window.

Very risky and quite possibly fatal strategy for Chieney et al. to make light of this in case Whittington, who IS 78, should worsen.

17. Taking their cue from Faux yesterday
to "laugh" their way out of a serious mishap - just like Dumbya tried to do with the looking for WMDs skit at a press dinner.

Unlike Iraq this is indeed hilarious (unless whittingdon's heart attack is serious), but nevertheless shows incompetence, arrogance, secrecy, disregard for the press etc. - trademarks of this appalling administration.

22. I cried when somebody had to pry Nancy off of Ronald's casket
They're still human beings, and so am I.

And over the weekend, a DUer who's grandparents were Holocaust survivors commented that while Bush might be alot of things, Hitler he is not. We who have no connection to such things have no idea what it would mean to actually be under a Nazi regime. We devalue what happened in Nazi Germany if we make the comparison too lightly seemed to be the point.
