From another forum: Republican Politician Hunters In Canned Hunts
appears to be from an Animal Activism Forum -

Republican Politician Hunters In Canned Hunts

(What is a canned hunt? Animals are trapped behind fences
with no place to run or hide...they are shot like sardines in a barrel
by trophy seeking killers)

Governor Mitt Romney of Massachusetts: in canned hunt
Former Governor Bill Weld of Mass: killed a boar in a canned hunt in NH
Governor Perdue of Georgia .. canned hunt
Governor Pataki of NY ... advanced canned hunting
Former Gov Keating of Oklahoma: advanced canned hunting
Gov Taft of Ohio... advanced canned hunting
Gov Perry of Texas... advanced canned hunting
Senator Cornyn... in canned hunt
Representative Dick Cheney (the office to which he was elected)
in canned hunt http://www.matthewscully.com

Governor Ehrlich... encountered so much opposition in Maryland
to his bear hunting plan that he has temporarily shelved his
campaign http://www.marylandbears.com

REPUBLICAN HUNTERS
Gov George Bush... killed endangered species bird, had frogshooting
parties, awarded by Safari Club.. bombed animals in Iraq, Afghanistan,
Colombia etc.
George H W Bush... awarded by Safari Club.. bombed people and animals
.. 250,000 in Highway of Death alone.. kills quail
Antonin Scalia.. in duck blind with Dick Cheney... justice is blind
Poster does not know if this hunt was canned. In Pennsylvania
Cheney and Senator Cornyn had cage raised birds released from
nets right in front of them

Other Hunters:

Former Red Sock Wade Boggs, member of Safari Club (each member
must kill 300 KINDS of animals)Republican Politician Hunters

Many of these governors owe their 'victories' to Diebold, ESS,
Sequoia Pacific, Triad and/or other 'voting machines' owned
by Republicans. http://www.blackboxvoting.org

OTHER ANIMAL ISSUES

Elizabeth Dole, senator from NC: absolutely silent about Smithfield,
Duke and other animal abuse centers in NC

John McCain 0 environmental rating

Senator Lott has protected those who breed cocks for fighting
in other states and as Republican 'Majority' Leader prevented
national legislation to ban cockfighting, banned in 49 states now.

Tom Delay: entered politics to fight an EPA ruling banning
an antkiller he was using in his extermination business.

ACTED AGAINST ANIMALS:
George Voinovich, Senator from Ohio... with Idaho's Craig
introduced a bill to exempt certain birds from federal migration
protection
Senator Craig of Idaho: cosponsor of bill
Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa: introduced bill to exempt baby chicks
from federal protections and have them reclassified as mail

Sam Alito, nominee of the unelected Bush to the unelected Supreme
Court, broke his promise twice to recuse himself on a regional
bench from cases involving Vanguard, perhaps the fund most
heavily invested in slaughterhouse products from Wendy's, KFC
and Taco Bell to McDonald's, Arby's and Lonestar Steak House Chain.

1. These canned hunts sound really awful
and certainly not sporting in any sense of the word. Why are they legal? And how could anyone enjoy participating in them?

2. Worse, I've seen "Safari"s from helicopters, "hunters" shoot from above
and then have a drink and let the locals bring their "prey" in for trophy stuffing.

Pigs.

They put it on a wall in their den and tell people of their great hunt.

4. Statement by The HSUS in Response to V.P. Cheney's Shooting Spree at a PA
Statement by The HSUS in Response to V.P. Cheney's Shooting Spree at a PA Canned Hunting Facility

December 9, 2003

WASHINGTON--Monday's hunting trip to Pennsylvania by Vice President Dick Cheney in which he reportedly shot more than 70 stocked pheasants and an unknown number of mallard ducks at an exclusive private club places a spotlight on an increasingly popular and deplorable form of hunting, in which birds are pen-reared and released to be shot in large numbers by patrons. The ethics of these hunts are called into question by rank-and-file sportsmen, who hunt animals in their native habitat and do not shoot confined or pen-raised animals that cannot escape.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported today that 500 farm-raised pheasants were released yesterday morning at the Rolling Rock Club in Ligonier Township for the benefit of Cheney’s 10-person hunting party. The group killed at least 417 of the birds, illustrating the unsporting nature of canned hunts. The party also shot an unknown number of captive mallards in the afternoon. Click here to read the Post-Gazette's story.

“This wasn’t a hunting ground. It was an open-air abattoir, and the vice president should be ashamed to have patronized this operation and then slaughtered so many animals,” states Wayne Pacelle, a senior vice president of The Humane Society of the United States. “If the Vice President and his friends wanted to sharpen their shooting skills, they could have shot skeet or clay, not resorted to the slaughter of more than 400 creatures planted right in front of them as animated targets.”

The Humane Society of the United States deplores the shooting of captive birds and animals where traditional “fair chase” hunting ethics are discarded and kills are guaranteed. We are campaigning to outlaw canned hunts through federal and state legislation. Our opposition is more thoroughly delineated in an opinion page essay by Pacelle in today's edition of The New York Times (page 29).
