"michael chertoff is a lackey ..who agrees with the "cry wolf" of the WH."

"Former DHS secretary Tom Ridge admits the U.S. raised terror alerts for the wrong reasons and now says he often disagreed with the timing of such alerts but was overruled by the White House.

"More often than not we were the least inclined to raise it," Ridge says. "Sometimes we disagreed with the intelligence assessment. Sometimes we thought even if the intelligence was good, you don't necessarily put the country on alert, There were times when the White House was really aggressive about raising it, and we said, 'For that?' We often lost the argument."

Ridge left DHS in February 2005 and Bush replaced him with Michael Chertoff who agrees with the “cry wolf” strategy of the White House.

“Chertoff is a lackey,” says Kevin Riley, a retired New York City Detective who knew Chertoff during his days as a U.S. Attorney in New York. “He’ll do whatever Bush tells him to do.”

1. And?
This is different from other Bush appointees how? It is nothing more than business as usual.

2. well ... for one, tom ridge is speaking out some truth through his teeth,
truth like when he was director of DHS, he wouldn't have raised the ALERT levels while the WH pushed for it and always WON.

To me it seems like the disrobing of bush out in public where he ought to be crucified by the very people who sat him in the oval office.

but, like the saying goes, different strokes for different folks.

7. right! and also, others have spoken but they have been smeared...
there was that economist (whose name i can't remember) who was one of the first ones to speak -- he was smeared.

there was another one too (can't remember his name or position within bush administration. he was blonde and he may have been someone connected to colin powell, or to condoleeza rice in her previous position--although i am not sure. he too was smeared). i will come back to the post if i can remember the name...

but sadly, there are those who are perhaps too afraid to speak (or even sadder yet, those who might agree with bush's fascist empire and will say nothing eventhough they know full well what all lies and manipulations the bushistas are up to and capable of).

4. It is like the Polish sneaking into Germany before WW2 etc.
Always something with this group that one has to get up tight about. It has worked so well with his base why stop it? Also it means a little more money for the DOD to save us all. Got to recall I lived through the Cold War. This was for ever going on. Can not think of any thing else to keep us together try saving us all. I must say that Bush and Co, could get a few terrorist as powerful as the USSR had got to be a feather in his cap. He has united the whole nut cases in that part to blow us up. Good job on his part. I wonder if that was what they planned?

5. Bush cabinet meetings probably run like this:
President Bush: OK, boys. Tell me what you got this week.
Vice President Cheney: Let me remind you to keep it short.
Agriculture Sec'y Johanns: Archer Daniels stock is doing great. Thank you, Mr. President.
Interior Sec'y Norton: Our American Indians are as happy and healthy as ever. Your policies are working.
Commerce Sec'y Gutierrez: China trade figures are out of sight. Our trade with China proves we're No. 1.
Attorney General Gonzales: Violent crime figures are good, thanks to your terrorist surveillance program.
Defense Sec'y Rumsfeld: We're winning in Iraq. Everyone just loves our soldiers there.
Labor Sec'y Chao: Your manufacturing reduction program is going very well, we're a knowledge society now.
Education Sec'y Spellings: Sir, everyone is educated. No child is being left behind.
Sec'y of State Rice: My trips were just fabulous. Really lovely.
Energy Sec'y Bodman: Record profits this week for our oil and gas sector. Your energy program is doing wonders.
Transportation Sec'y Mineta: No airplane crashes to report, Sir.
HHS Sec'y Leavitt: Drug companies are being paid on time. Your drug prescription program is working well.
Treasury Sec'y Snow: Bond sales are strong. Your fiscal plan is very sound and far-sighted.
Homeland Security Sec'y Chertoff: Our borders are secure. Thank you, Mr. President. You're doing one heck of a job.
etc.

6. Chertoff made his bones serving as Al D'Amato's "Roy Cohn"
during the Whitewater hoax. He has no business being in such an imprtant position - but then again neither did Bernard Kerik. Bush has nothing but contempt for the citizens of this country - even the ones who support him.
