I'm not sitting in your living room, watching the same channel you're watching and reading the output of a thought monitor attached to your scalp. I don't know what the heck you're talking about, unless you tell me.

I also don't have time to follow every link that everyone posts anywhere, and when I'm at work I have to be reasonably discreet about what sounds come out of my computer.

So here is how I've been reacting to various prototypical DU threads lately:

go to KOS. Diaries are rated and the only ones making it on front page are the ones that have substance, they're almost always well organized, well thought, more sophisticated and worth reading. Imagine a site that has about fifty William Pitts posting diaries every day. -- That's KOS. I love Dkos and frequent there more often than here because I want to read a blog that is more substance than commentary. The downside to that is that investigative diaries that have to do with anything current may not come out until hours or days after the fact. DU, OTOH, has the best of both worlds. You can get LBN with commentary instantaneously, and you have the lounge, where as DKos has the openthreads.Less constraints here, to be sure.

Just take the best out of each and leave the rest.

right past me. For instance, I hadn't been following ALL of the latest news for a few days and all of the sudden I saw an entire thread in which the terms MIHOP and LIHOP were never explained--I had to Google it and I felt like a moron.

As a writer, I am used to using (primarily) the true names of people, places, and events (albeit with occasional alterations for the sake of a point or the sake of humor) rather than the clever terminology we are always coming up with.

I like the catchwords, but it is frustrating sometimes.
