Galilee Biblical Park On Tap?
Galilee biblical park on tap?

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel is offering evangelical Christians a chunk of the Holy Land.
Thirty-five acres of rolling hills and rocky shores of the Sea of Galilee, tucked between key sites in Jesus' ministry, would be leased to an association of evangelists led by American religious broadcaster Pat Robertson, Israeli tourism officials say.

The potential deal for turning over biblical lands to develop a tourist destination underlines how ties have strengthened in recent years between Israel and evangelical Christian groups that support the Jewish state.

For other Christian denominations, which represent tens of thousands of Arabs living in the Holy Land, the deal raises questions about possible threats to the sensitive status quo in the Galilee region where they have owned land for hundreds of years.

The land envisioned for the lease also is near a politically contentious area. It lies just under two miles from territory that Syria wants returned in any future peace deal with Israel, said a Syrian expert on geography, Hamed Halaby.

One time on this forum I made a remark that in recent years, there had been an alliance built up btw some evangelicals, and some Israeli people. One or two posters called me out, demanded "cites", and basically took the position that no such thing had ever happened. Oh, okay. Ne'ermine. I must've imagined it. Certainly a mention of such a thing in an article in USA Today, a publication which is known for its Stormfront-style anti-semitism, proves nothing.

1. Extremist right-wing, religious nuts from the USA have much in common
with the current regime in Israel.

btw, i do make a distinction between those who hold strong religious beliefs and those who support policies that oppress others. Not all religious people, even very religious people, have such views.

Also, some very secular people use the religiosity of others to promote colonialism and oppression.

2. Good post....
and especially your part about "some very secular people use the religiosity of others to promote colonialism and oppression." A super-duper prime example of this is the teachings of Leo Strauss--whose fantasies we are currently being forced to live out, thanks to his followers the neocon vermin. This Strauss guy preached that religion was basically for the masses, and that the elite (his guys, of course) needn't buy into that b.s. He did encourage his followers to nurture extreme religiousness among the unwashed masses, because it made those masses far easier for him and his elite golden-boy followers to control.
