Today, I met Jimmy Carter --->PIX
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 01:51 AM by Cleetus
What a thrill.

I was totally depessed watching Gonzo evade every question. Then three o'clock rolled around and I headed downtown to see President Carter, who was in town to support his son Jack, who is making a run for Senate.

Totally the thrill of a lifetime, shaking the hand of such a great huimanitarian. The President and the First Lady both looked great.

What a contrast between Jimmy Carter and the idiot who now has the job. The moment I saw President Carter I could laugh and cry. It depended what I was thinking, and my thoughts were toggling rapid fire. Manic depression is a frustrating mess...

It was the thrill of a lifetime. This Gonzo shit has drained me, I suppose I forgot that decent human beings still walk the earth. My soul is completely recharged :)

I love president Carter! He is the one who inspired me to vote 1976! He was my first vote for president, I was 21 and just got my US citizenship July 4th, 1976!

7. You're welcome, and BTW
BTW, the President is seen applauding here as his son, Jack, was making comments about the clusterfuck that is the Bush Administration.

10. I shook his hand in 1978.
We went to Charleston, WV 2 protest mountain top removal. He worked the rope line after the meeting. My son was in a back pack and Jimmy reached over my shoulder 2 pinch his cheek. My daughter was 5 at the time & wore coke bottle lens glasses. As he passed, she caught his eye; he turned and came back 2 her (she's a blonde & w/ the glasses I think it reminded him of Amy). Squatting down 2 her level, he talked 2 her for a few moments B4 moving on. She cherishes that memory.

Jimmy Cater can do no wrong in our house.

30. Aw how sweet
You can usually tell when people are just doing the children thing for a photo-op or not. If they aren't is when they bend down to their level and pay attention to them and not the camera. Kerry, Gore, Clinton, Carter and all of them do that.

13. I chatted with him for about a minute back in.......75? so long ago
he actually came to Muskogee, Oklahoma campaigning...I had just landed our company plane and taxiied it up to the hangar and there he was. I walked over and was talking to his pilot who dragged me over to where Jimmy was standing. I don't think I had ever heard of him before that day but he remains one of my biggest heroes to this day. A fine, decent and honorable man among men, no doubt.

a very good person. And he is speaking out on the danger of this administration and their breaking from rules that have bound previous administrations on war and power.

17. One of the most underrated Presidents
I think history will show that he was a much better President than many of his contemporaries. He's done so much good since he left office, much more than the others.

The Iran hostage thing did him in, and if Reagan had been more interested in freeing the hostages than winning the election, they would have been out much sooner.

I think they're my favorite first couple along with John and Caroline Kennedy. If Kerry was elected as he should've been Teresa and he would've been up there too.

36. I dunno
I hope Jack does well. Honestly, I went to the rally to see Jimmy Carter, but once I heard Jack, I started feeling good again. The words Jack spoke resonated in me. I will be out campaining for Jack Carter.

OOoops, your question. I looked, but could not find any polling data. I really don't know how much of a chance Jack has.

that my Republican parents let me stay up late to watch the coverage on election night - I just knew he would win! Wild guess of an 11-year-old, but what fun. :-)

It breaks my heart to think of the contrast between that night and the fraudulent "election returns" of 2000 and 2004.
