1. Specter even cajoled the REPUBS!
The republicans all started voting NO against Specter...until he stopped them and reminded them he was looking for YES votes! So they re-started, and voted YES with Specter! WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON HERE?

THE KANGAROOS ARE HOPPING ON THIS KANGAROO COMMITTEE!

7. Specter said he is "trustworthy" and therefore we should trust him
It is un-fucking-believable! He has been sworn in every other time he has appeared, but THIS TIME, he's been pre-ordained to be "trustworthy." Fuckers.

15. We know he lied at his confirmation.
We know he's up, today, because of the presumption that he and Chenbush are guilty of breaking the law. OF COURSE he will lie his ass off! Whyinhell should he be trusted to even give his own address.
Spectre is the sleeper cell. He has proven to be the one who needs impeaching.

19. If King George says he is trustworthy, then that is
going to have to be OK with the rest of us.

That is their attitude and they now make no pretense
that this is anything other than a dictatorship and/or monarchy.

If they are not all swept out of there in '06, our country
is lost for good.

5. liar
This is so blatant a farce. They know Gonzales lied to Feingold during his confirmation hearing and so they aren't going to hold him to the truth now. This is prima facie evidence we need an indepedent investigation of this whole domestic spying business. We get to sit here and listen to lies all day from this asshole.

10. The Dems on the panel ought to hound Specter on this all day!!!
We need to make the daily soundbite one in which Republicans are depicted as fearing to testify under oath -- like all OTHER Americans have to do.

18. If they'd hound him all day, we'd actually get somewhere -- so...
I imagine the Dems will pretty much roll over and let Gonzo lie all he wants without protest.

I hope I'm wrong, but I no longer hold much respect for our elected Democrats' ability or willingness to fight for their country.

36. So many knew the false statements preceeding the rush to invade Iraq..
so how come the entire congress now claims they would not have authorized had they known the WMD, AlQaeda, Niger Uranium issues were untrue?
Only one answer...big Oil, big war industry, big military enterprise NEEDED A SHOT IN THE ARM, to ward off the economic anemia before the "war".

13. Gonzales really will be Speedy...
AS "liar, liar, pants on fire", ought to set a new record in the 100 yard dash.

I've never heard of Congress taking testimony without swearing the source in--though I never really thought about it before? Is this done (I mean, before now)?

It's like the 9/11 Commission--not swearing Bush/Cheney in, allowing them to be "interviewed" together on their home turf, and on a single instance for a carefully limited time. Probably no recording devices either.

Yeah, "we have nothing to hide, trust us".

That Congress would cave in... to be so pathetically compliant and submissive to the Executive... we already have a "Unitary" Executive in all but name...

Why not THIS TIME?

Why is THIS TIME different?

Because it is so important, that's why. They don't want Torture Boy sent to one of his own Gulags.

to me, THREE TIMES in the last 12 months. All I had on the envelope was a 1/4" peace symbol and a quip like "BUSH LIED - OIL IS WHY".
So you know, if you want to associate with a "terrorist" like me, be warned.

congression statue to protect our civil liberties...but these aparatchecks of the B.C.F. would have the country believe that nothing illegal was EVEN POSSIBLE.
Impeachment or some remedy akin to it is long overdue.

16. "Squeaky" has not given any reason that I can hear for avoiding FISA
Everything he has listed that they are doing with their spying can be done under FISA. This is just ridiculous and I hope that the dems (or a Repub, though I doubt it) will refute all these points he's making. (Leahy did a great job but I don't want Squeaky to have the last word here.)

39. Why not? This issue is the Pug party's civil rights Achilies heal.
Poor & minority civil rights have always struggled to get past the apathy of the middle class...but the opening of email and postal letters affects the middle class and the wealthy. So it seems opportune to exploit the crack in the Fascist wall.

28. He's really dumb, the dumbest of them all.
The only good thing about this Bush good-old -boy network is that it decidedly is not a meritocracy, more then a few of the Bushies are idiots. No wonder Cheney and Rumsfeld run roughshod over them, Rice and Gonzalez are morons. Functional dull normals of the type who can grind their way through a grad school but haven't the least spark of real intelligence.

This if getting more absurd by the minute. Alberto is asked if it is okay if Ashcroft testified. He hemmed and hawed and tried to say NO without it sounding like a NO, but eventually had to say he didn't object. Jesus. My head is spinning.

35. I disagree
He provided a very clear illustration that Gonzo is lying. He simply cannot and will not answer a simple question. We'll see if Al actually comes up with the answer, as Leahy demanded. If not, then I might be more inclined to agree. Still, though, it put Torture Boy under the spotlight very well, and it demonstrated the extent of his lying. Maybe not a clean goal, but I'll take the point for now!

40. Nothing to hide?
On domestic spying, the GOP talking point is that if you've done nothing wrong, you don't have anything to hide and nothing to fear.

They should be thinking same regarding this hearing. If you have done nothing wrong, and have nothing to hide, then you should be
sworn in when giving testimony before the Senate. Period. What's the big deal?

It just looks wrong when the chairman says that there is no need for G to be sworn in because it is wrong. What are they trying to hide?

Can someone on this board give me the rationale for Specter's declaration?
