what if all of us really boycotted tweety, et al...
i come to du to get the news..can link from here ....i cant watch tweety..hannity..scarborough..o reilly..as it is . ..and if i watch the bought and paid for mmm and the spin..i just cant take it...i get stirred up and ineffective...so im happy enough to read the threads here about all of them...i know what they say..i know they are pandering at all times...
makes me happy to boycott....we should be thoroughly organized in this endeavor...suggesting that the tweety junkies get one thread.. .o reilly, scarborough (that piece of shit), etc. each get one thread...but if we're calling for a boycott..then we should boycott..each thing we say we are going to do..we should do..there are 80000+ viewers here on du...most of us watch sometime...what if they lost all but one of us...and what if each one of us got at least one other to stop watching...etc etc...
could this be an organized thing here at du?..like huffingtons russert watch?

1. I am fine with it, but
Someone needs to watch for the lies, to call them on it. Now C&L and Canofun do a good job of posting the clips, but they do miss some stuff, and we need to call them on ALL of it. We need to have a few people watch, and make sure the offensive items, all of them, are caught and listed, and of course, properly responded to.

6. good idea, but that could be organized as well...where with a click
of the mouse, we can get to a link for a letter to whomever...

2. Tweety has best plame coverage - tweety and guests didn't like SOTU
etc etc.

Yes tweety is very annoying. And says some crazy things. And pisses me off.

OTOH there are some good things about his show.

Tweety had a very hard hitting interview w Rumsfeld. Nobody else ever did.

Tweety smacked down the swiftboat liars pretty quick, as well as their syncophants like Michelle Malkin.

Nobody can dismantle a simpering Bushbot like tweety.

David Schuster is an excellent reporter.

Tweety dislikes Cheney .

Tweety dislikes Iraq war.

I have seen many threads bashing Tweety on DU that quote him out of context or are simply kneejerk nonsense.

PS unless you are a nielsen family, I am not sure that it matters whether you watch or not.

10. Yeah, and he claimed that the hordes of libru'l and gay in central
Alabama were setting fire to churches. I have been to central Alabama. I don't think Tweety ever has.

He's a drunk, a bigot, a misogynist, a racist, and an extreme homophobe. He brags about partying with the Rethugs on the air. He's overpaid and overblown. Other than that, he's a heckovaguy.

14. you must have missed the part where I said he pisses me off
and I missed the part where I say he was a "heckovaguy", because I didn't

3. I hate to break it to you, but watching or not watching Tweety is
useless as a means of bringing about political change.

My not having cable and so not being able to watch tweety doesn't effect anything outside of my own house.

But I hope you pull it together anyway because it sounds like it's very important to you. I just don't see why.

4. It only matters if you have a ratings box. Not sure how many of us 80000
du'ers have them, but those are the ones you need to reach out to. Otherwise, in the absence of one, your boycott will go completely unnoticed.

8. Doesn't Matter. It's Not What They Go By. Again, If You Don't Have A
ratings box, a boycott would be completely unnoticed. That's just the way it works.

Do what makes ya feel good though.

13. here is the company that measures ratings -
doesn't matter what you watch unless you are part of their survey group. I don't know how they choose. We were almost a nielsen family, but I got lazy and didn't send the paperwork back.

5. What if all of us sent Tweety links to all the indisputable truth
that floats around in here? What if we made an attempt to remove the scales from his eyes rather than make an attempt to further alienate him from the truth?? What if he became a KO lite? I mean, anything is possible, and you won't know if he can be turned until you reach out to him in earnest.

9. I quit watching awhile ago.
In fact, I quit watching "network" "news" awhile ago as well. About all I do now is check newslines, wires, and DU on the internet and listen to Stephanie Miller.

12. It doesn't matter...
...they don't care whether you watch. They will "catapult the propaganda" whether we tune in or not.

Boycotts do have an effect however. I am all for boycotting those businesses who support viewpoints and practices that I don't support. That's why I try to buy organic for example.

The most effective vote you have is with your money.

15. I've never watched or listened.
Ever.

So my boycotting really wouldn't have much of an effect.

I can say that if enough people would just turn the crap off, and not enable it by giving it the attention/listening audience necessary to make it pay, their "voices" would become irrelevant.

I can say that putting time, energy, focus, and conversation somewhere likely to generate positive thought and action could make progressive voices more relevant.

I guess it's up to each of you. I not only don't listen or watch, I don't know anyone in my personal, non-cyber life who does.
