Tibetans want mutually acceptable solution: Dalai Lama

By IANS, Agartala, Jan 18 - The Tibetans want a mutually acceptable solution although there are no results as yet despite direct contacts established between Beijing and exiled Tibetan leaders, said Buddhist spiritual leader the Dalai Lama here Thursday.

'We want a mutually agreeable solution of the Tibet issue, but the present situation is not favourable for both China and Tibet,' the Dalai Lama told journalists here.

The Dalai Lama said he supports communism.

'I am humanitarian Marxist, I am Buddhist Marxist, I am not nationalistic Marxist, I am also a socialist. Marxist economic theory is for all,' the Dalai Lama said.

'It propagates for equal distribution and Marxism and Buddhism are working in a similar line. I am totally against totalitarian system and using force,' the Buddhist leader added.

He also appealed to the militant groups in the northeast to shun violence.

'Genuine demands and grievances of the militants should be solved across the table as violence is not a way to solve any kind of demands,' the Dalai Lama said.

But I'm only passingly familiar with the "Marxist economic system", can anyone put it in layman's terms? And has it ever been instituted anywhere without failing due to corrupt authoritarianism?

Familiar to me and doesn't include any of the nasty 'trigger' words. (I mean, I hate to this day that being called a 'socialist' by my aunt wounded me. It's hard to overcome the propaganda we Americans are fed from birth about socialism, even when we know better.)

And by the way, America has been practicing socialism for decades, from the top down. Subsidizing industry and making sure the money is flowing upwards - it's called socialism for the rich.

What isn't a dirty word is socialism from below - or people's socialism. Hopefully, more people will understand that it isn't such a nasty word afterall.

3. Lord Acton's axiom does tend to kick in whoever takes power.

Capitalists, Marxists, Fascists, Monarchists, Liberals, Conservatives. Once power is attained the first priority always becomes preserving it. The second, expanding it. The third, throwing under the bus whoever is deemed necessary to enact the first two priorities.

Unions brought down Communism
French Revolution
American Revolution

Most of europe learned from the Monarchies that they are for the rich and the worker got nothing
thus Europe tends to Socialist with Labor Unions on boards of countries...

It's quite interesting. I wonder if we haven't ruined our chances of progressing towards this peacefully by granting corporations personhood way back when.

In any case it's very clear that unfettered capitalism and the abolishment of unions and social services, as championed by our government, favors corporate interests above those of the people, and that that isn't sustainable in the long run. As the disparity between the wealthy ruling class and the rest of us grows, so do tempers....
