1. It's possible to disagree without demeaning unfairly.
And I *do* disagree with Pelosi. I don't think ANYTHING should be off the table. However, it's entirely possible that she is concerned with the safety of the troops already serving in Iraq.

3. Weapons of Mass Destruction
Let those four words sink into your head. Why, exactly, were American troops sent into Iraq in the first place?

If the House actually supports this "surge," then those who vote in support of it deserve our contempt. We wanted change, damn it, and if we don't get change, then the Democratic Party as we know it may be kaput.

27. This is tantamount to heresy!
To many DUers, that is.

I have followed your posts on this issue, and ardently and fervently totally agree with you.

There is only one option that is acceptable.

Get the f*** out of Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, and anywhere else we may be at this time.

10. Agreed
Pelosi seems more about being popular than going against the war and the repukes.I was warned it would be like this if she got elected and I wanted so bad for it to be wrong but apparantly she just wants to be a show piece for the dems and play along with bushco.
Barf me

26. I'm afraid that "we" can't, nor can "we" impeach her.
Maybe if you ask really nicely, though, she'll impeach herself, though I have no idea on what charges.

9. I'm going to have to agree...
She's worried about the pressure of labels applied by the GOP when they refuse to fund the escalation. The problem with this is that the American voter is increasingly against the occupation, and singlehandedly against the escalation, so the political posturing is complete bullsh*t.

What makes this worse is the House resolution against the escalation, however they refuse to de-fund the occupation.

It's support by default.

Sorry Nancy.

15. Impeachment is the conclusion to long and multiple investigations
a result, not its own process. so you tell people its off the table but the investigations being one will reveal damaging info that the PUBLIC can scream about and they will likely DEMAND we impeach him. Therefore its not seen as partisan politica, but the result of findings of criminal acts revealed to the masses.

Not cutting the funding is preserving the democratic hands that would be cut off for years to come. I don't like it either. but I believe Nancy to be politically savvy and she will find away to deal with this. It may be a good thing to get millions into DC Jan 27th, millions of protestors may be the only thing left to stop this.

17. Botox bitch? Is it possible to discuss this without resorting to an equivalent of flinging poo?
What are we, twelve?

Besides...who is "we?" "WE" do not have the power of impeachment.
The House of Representatives has the power of impeachment, and it is unclear at best (signs point to "no") that the House of Representatives even CAN impeach one of its own.

The House can expel its own members (which is wholly separate from impeachment) but...yeah. 2/3rds majority needs to do it. A Democratic majority is not going to expel a Democratic member of Congress for not doing what a few members of Democratic Underground wants it to do.

20. We need to have an opposition party instead of a "sympathetic party"
We need a party that will raise hell every step of the way. If we had a real opposition party, Bush Inc would have been given the boot a long time ago.

I hope she has something up here sleeve though.

31. Sean Penn might move over from Marin. Ed Asner's wife's nephew is SF mayor. . .
Edited on Fri Jan-19-07 03:29 PM by pat_k
. . .I would imagine the Asner's would have some connections/ideas.

There are probably some possibilities in Silicon Valley.

Don't know where Andy Rappaport stands on impeachment, but he'd be someone to talk to. At a minimum, might have some recommendations, even if unwilling to jump in.

I think the challenger needs to be able/willing to self-finance to be viewed as a serious threat.

And what about "Aragon" (Viggo Mortensen). This early in the game, can tap someone who would be willing to move into the district. I think he's in LA. Mortenson in http://www.progressive.org/mag_intv1105a 2005 interview>

Mortensen: It’s too easy, and it lets a lot of people off the hook. I think impeachment proceedings need to be started immediately but not just against him. God forbid we should have Dick Cheney as President. No. Those two need to go, and many of the others in the inner circle need to go. . .

Okay. I'm being a little harsh. Politically it probably makes good sense to go slow and let the voting public get just as fed up with Bush* and his neo-con pals as we are before pulling the plug, but, damn its hard to watch so many people on both sides being killed and maimed while this plays out.
