Another chance for Gore?-In Recent Weeks, VP Camp Quietly Put Out Feelers...
Another chance for Gore?
By Scot Lehigh, Globe Columnist | January 16, 2007

.................

Publicly, Gore hasn't ruled out running, but neither has he evinced much interest.

But when one friend asked him recently about another campaign, Gore didn't dismiss the question out of hand. "We'll see how things go," he replied.

Another Democratic source says that in recent weeks, the former vice president's camp has quietly put out feelers to presidential politicos, asking whether they are committed for 2008.

The passage of time has a way of putting things and people in perspective, and six-plus years after he won the national popular vote but lost the presidency by half a whisker in Florida, Gore looks good.

2. One minor correction
He did not lose the presidency by half a whisker in Florida, he lost to the supreme treason of the Supreme Court. When all the votes were counted, Florida would have gone for Gore.

4. Though the media tried to report it as obscurely
as possible, in the end Gore won handsomely in Florida. If by "win" one means got the most votes (i.e. the most cast ballots).

3. 100%
He could win easily if he runs a do-over campaign. Doing-over the last 6 years will look mighty fine to most Americans in '08.

And if he doesn't run, the new Dem Pres. should appoint him Sec. of the Environment. :D

5. I love this! It gives me a glimmer of hope that he MIGHT run...
Did anyone else find it odd (or maybe not) that outside of Gore they talked about the race being all about Hillary and Obama - neither of whom have actually declared - and not one mention was made about Edwards?? I know that Hillary and Obama have been getting most of the buzz, but I think that Edwards is certainly a top contender and I just found it odd that they didn't make a single mention of him.

That aside, I love what this article says about Gore. It points out some of the biggest reasons why Gore is my top choice. This closing paragraph is really good...

As Democrats eye the White House, Gore is a could-be candidate who combines experience, knowledge, and ability in compelling proportions. In a field that lacks a truly convincing figure, that combination would make him a formidable candidate if he decides to run.

Run, Al, Run!!!

15. "...not one mention was made about Edwards??"
Interesting, I hadn't considered this, but Edwards is the only one to officially announce, and the media is shutting him out? Perhaps they're afraid he has a shot at winning? Not that I don't think Obama can win, but I think the media underestimates his chances?

18. I think the media is scared of Edwards
So they are shutting him out until they can catch him in a Dean Scream moment.

7. Just spit-balling here, but part of me wonders if he's waiting for Hillary to officially decide not
to run? He'd need a lot of the support system that she has a tight grip on.

17. my fondest hope
is that Bill, Hil, and Al had a chat at Bill's big fundraiser. They set aside personal aspirations and said "how can we best fix this mess?" They decided that Hil would be the stalking horse, keeping the pugs distracted, while Al just kept on building a non-political fandom with movie, lectures, book, meetings with heads of state, letting the groundswell grow. In the meantime, the various anti-Al naysayers shoot their wad and sputter out. The election was a key milestone; it was achieved, the plan moves on. Hil will eventually say she's not running, and she and Bill will endorse Al in the same speech. And that, my friends, will be THAT!

The country - nay, the entire planet, will erupt in an orgasmic frenzy; Al will be named President by acclimation, and we'll get to work cleaning up the mess.

If anything - ANYTHING - could salvage a modicum of respect in the world for the US, it would be selecting Big Al to put things right.

12. Thanks, for posting this here!
My comment to the question in that article:

============(My handle there is DraftChickenHawks -- it is on page 4)============
YES, YES, YES, YES!

As someone else already posted, yes indeed! Al Gore is the best prepared person ever to run for the presidency -- he has impeccable judgement on the large issues facing the nation (as demonstrated by his courageous stance before the IWR, giving a speech imploring the Democrats in congress to vote no on the IWR; his numerous speeches since 2002 excoritating the Bush mal-admin to wake up and act American). His amazing effort to rouse the US into taking action on global warming is nothing short of Herculean. I, and I am sure millions more, think that the presidency is his best platform to effect change. I think the world deserves to have an intelligent, sincere and genuinely fun and funny person as its leader, at a time of great potential and yet tragic current mismanagement.

Read my diaries over at DailyKos on these two issues (Gore in '08 and his work on Global Warming) to read more:

20. That would be very good news.
Don't get me wrong. I think that Obama and Edwards are extroadinarily talented politicians, that Clark, Richardson, Biden and Dodd are all experienced hands and that Hillary Clinton--well Hillary has Bill and that may be enough but Gore is the one potential candidate who combines vision and experience plus the ability to communicate that vision.
