Int'l Law Experts: is attacking a consulate the same as attacking an embassy

I know that embassies are considered the sovereign territory of a nation and that an attack on an embassy is the same as an attack on that country, but does the same hold true for consulates? What is the status of consulates under international law & custom?

3. If they're refuting it's a consolate, attacking a consolate is BAD.

But you know what they'll say.

Kurdistan isn't a real country so any Iranian diplomatic mission to Kurdistan isn't a real diplomatic mission.

This, of course, is a direct and grievous insult to the movers and shakers of Kurdistan, several degrees beyond the raid on al-Hakim's compound a couple of weeks ago.
