I am willing to take impeachment off the table.
Edited on Wed Jan-10-07 11:08 PM by yellowdogmi
As I listened to *’s speech tonight, I heard him do something I have not ever heard him do before. He took responsibility for his mistakes. Here is the text.

(snip)

The situation in Iraq is unacceptable to the American people - and it is unacceptable to me. Our troops in Iraq have fought bravely. They have done everything we have asked them to do. Where mistakes have been made, the responsibility rests with me.

(snip)

Now I do not take much pleasure from this admission. It incenses me even more if that is possible. In the spirit of fair play that he fostered by admitting his mistake I am willing to throw down the following olive branch to Mr. Bush. We will take impeachment off the table. I am willing to extend this amnesty to the president provided he resigns immediately. Mr. President I implore you to help heal the wounds you have inflicted upon this country. Step aside. Save us the time, effort and treasury funds it will take to impeach you. This offer expires tomorrow at 10:00 pm.

YD

On edit: Anyone that wants on this train, please write an LTTE to your local paper tomorrow with this general gist.

I thought that it was clear what I was proposing but I kind of expected a few around here to miss the point.

8. Nope. He made one brief mention, dancing around a full-on admission
of responsibility, a SINGLE begrudging sentence that sort of skated around the idea, maybe in the same time zone, but then plowing ahead with talking up the surge, AND leaving the door open to launching a whole NEW war in Iran. IMPEACHMENT looks even more urgent and essential to me, as of tonight. That may be the only thing to stop this accellerating insanity. He wants to hang around in the frying pan for awhile longer AND jump out into the fire ALSO. IMPEACHMENT, and REMOVAL FROM OFFICE.

18. I agree
his handlers want to expand and see this to be the last opportunity to do so. Meanwhile, we have a delusional man, who wants something big to show the world how "great" he is.

But let's see how the Dems perform to reign him in...

22. I was thinking that
if we had a large public outcry for his resignation it would make the whole impeachment off the table argument mute. Then the democratic leadership can just say they are heeding their constituents. I agree that he must go. I just don't care how we make him go. I was trying to sound reasonable by highlighting his first and only admission of a mistake. Too bad I didn't read it that closely before I posted.

11. and wait a minute
he never said he made the mistakes.

That paragraph sounds to me was constructed to be misleading yet again.

"The situation in Iraq is unacceptable to the American people - and it is unacceptable to me." To me this sentence does not say his action is "unacceptable" to himself. It is someone else: Iraq

"Where" mistakes have been made - he removes himself from the mistakes itself, but will take responsibility - a la any company division chief - but what is the responsibility he is going to take? a 2k pay cut?

16. Sorry but I want nothing to do with that "train"
If impeachment is off the table how do we stop him? No one with any knowledge supports this "plan", he's running around like a crazed dictator who thinks that God is speaking to him. He's already started sending and redeploying troops, which means if the Dems don't vote for funding then they will again be labled as being "against the troops". Bush or whoever orchestrated this played it perfectly, he got what he wanted and if anyone stands against him he can just play the "support the troops" card. Impeachment is all we have left.

19. See #4
It was meant to show we have other options. If there is a huge public outcry for his resignation that the media cannot silence it maybe effective. I don't care how he goes. Just as long as he goes.

25. Well there was a huge public outcry against troop escalation
and it wasn't just the public. Generals, the ISG, his own father... Where did that get us? You really think he's going to resign because the public demands it?
