Hannity's New TV Show Bestows A Weekly "Enemy Of The State" Award
Edited on Mon Jan-08-07 05:13 PM by CatWoman

Great Moments In Fox News Dept.

Forget Keith Olbermann's "Worst Person In The World" contest — it's now been completely upstaged by a new Sunday contest on Fox: Sean Hannity's "Enemy of the State" award. Last night, Hannity's new Sunday night program aired for the first time, and from here on he'll award his "Enemy of the State" prize — a term originating with ancient Roman dictators placing bounties on rivals — on whatever red-state abortionist, anti-war activist, or run-of-the-mill Democrat who has attracted Hannity's ire that week. Imagine Hannity in that famous Twilight Zone episode, as the ranting Chancellor putting to death the old librarian portrayed by Burgess Meredith, and you'll get the idea. So who won the first "Enemy of the State" prize last night? To watch the segment and find out, view our YouTube here:

keep Fox on the air. PLEASE!! Keep Fox on the air. People are finally getting the message that if Fox spews it then the best course of action is the exact opposite.

since even most of the R's have decided to tune Hannity out, then he has no choice but to figure out a way to get all the D's to watch just to find out who the enemy of the state is. Well, that's how he planned it anyways. LOL. :)

on edit: interesting to see that Hannity is implicitly representing the opinion of "the State". Olbermann's just giving his personal view on the WPITW segments. Whoa, Fox, openly speaking as the mouthpiece of the Homeland now, are we?

They live in fear, and they want BIG GOVERNMENT to protect them.

Witness BushCo, which is Big Government, Big Spending, "Nation Building" -- all the things they "claim" they are against.

Republicons love THE STATE.

They have learned to LOVE BIG BROTHER.

But they like to pretend they are against Big Government, to cover up their sickness of soul.

Republicons are minions of Big Brother, make no mistake about it.

Being the kind of guy I am, I did some reaserch:

Plot Outline: Robert Dayton Dean (Smith) is a successful Washington, D.C., attorney who -- without his knowledge -- is given a video that ties a top official of the National Security Agency (played by Jon Voight) to a political murder! A lethal team of skilled NSA operatives wages a relentless, ultra-high-tech campaign to discredit Dean and retrieve the incriminating evidence!

But "the state" is used when the country is communist or facist, and communism and facism is bad. Didn't they teach us all that for all those years. How are all those people out there old enough to remember the cold war going to contend with this?

Oh, I forgot. Nationalism use to be wrong too, now it is good and so we can now have "the state". :sarcasm:

He's such a rotten bastard. I suppose in Bushworld he is an "enemy of the state". How dare he do such a thing when the Republican version of ethinic cleansing was going so "swimmingly"...

It is actor Sean Penn. It seems Sean called Hannity a "whore" a few weeks ago, and called the bush administration "bastards" and that earned him the title. Hannity then referred to Sean as being a "bad actor". Sorry, I don't like every movie the man makes, but some of his acting is five times better than anything I ever saw Reagan do. So take that Hannity.

(edited because someone had already said who the winner was.)

44. I'm constantly amazed that conservatives can use the "liberal elite" line, without
being laughed out of the country.

Here we have a man so thoroughly attached to the nation's elite, that he can actually go on television and call his political opponents "enemies of the state". Implicit in this charge is the notion that his ideals and those of the state are *one and the same*.

So who's the "arrogant elite" here?

69. Hannity's nuts.
What a cheap gimmick to imitate KO.

"Worst Person in the World" is just a personal moral judgment on KO's part. It doesn't imply the same thing "Enemy of the State" does.

If I tell you I think you're "the worst person in the world," that's obviously my personal judgment and I'm not speaking for anyone else or implying that any action be taken on you. However, if I call you an "enemy of the state," that's quite different. First, I'm claiming that you are a danger to everyone else in the country. Second, I'm branding you a traitor. And countries have very specific ways of dealing with traitors.

The last thing I heard, one could not be arrested, tried, convicted or sentenced to prison or death for being "the worst person in the world."

The two things are nothing the same.

74. He wants a book contract, I bet.
WPIW did so well that Hannity is looking to copy-cat it. He'll probably just run this until he's got enough material for a book.

Guy's an utter git.

77. He actually picks someone who PERSONALLY went into NO and saved people??!!
He might be an " Enemy of the State" in that he made the state as in "government" as in "Bush" look so pathetic. Sean Penn was able to go in and save people when The National Guard couldn't, our military couldn't, the Red Cross couldn't, but somehow, Sean Penn, an individual, one American citizen, albeit an ACTOR, was able to go in on his own initiative and rescue fellow human beings.

Sean Hannity should hope he lives long enough to be worthy enough to tie Sean Penn's shoelaces.

86. Take a close look...
Edited on Tue Jan-09-07 12:01 AM by Chulanowa

The lineup is Castro, Kim Jong Il, Ahmedinejad, Carlos Mencia (I kid, I kid! Chavez), then Penn, Moore, Streissand, and someone who appears to be Alec Baldwin. Or Phil Colins. I'm bad with faces, but if it's an enemy of the state, my money's on Phil.

But note also... they're all wearing clone suits. Same jacket, same shirt, same tie. Even at the same angles! Either Hannity has discovered clip art, or he's found a new way to distinguish enemies of the state - be on the lookout for anyone in a black jacket, wite shirt, and a tie with an (ironicly) rightward bias!

Edit: Need to spellcheck more often :)
