Global Warming--a risky business
Massachusetts, January, 2007. The past few days have been so mild, it's completely puzzling and ultimately, it's scary. Tomorrow, the temperature for January 6, 2007 might actually reach 70. In all my times living in Southern California, the one thing which ultimately lead me to leave was the high temperatures--80 degrees in January was bad enough--now, my beloved New England is turning too damned warm for winter.

And yet the idiot in chief still sits in the white house, his brain shrinking every single day from disuse, and we are captives of his ridiculous policies and completely laughable science practices. Well, it's not so laughable to our planet, and certainly not to the flora and fauna who reside here. But until we completely stand up to the administration, we are helpless in reversing any damage already inflicted on Mother Earth.

While we often bitch and moan about the cold in New England during the winter, we must accept that it is normal for it to be cold, and that a week that includes temperatures of nearly 70 degrees are completely wrong and indeed alarming. We must heed Al Gore's warnings that if we do not act immediately we will kill our planet and in the process, ourselves.

I wish I could enjoy this mild spell, but a sense of unease fills me. Every day that the temperatures are over 35-40 degrees, another ice ledge in the Arctic is in danger of melting. A continued season of warm temperatures would help global warming increase, and ultimately contribute to the end of the world.

Ya figure, the fundies keep telling us the world will soon be ending. I think it's plain to see that they're doing all they can do to help that scenario along. They have "their" president for two more years--that's more than enough time to screw the rest of us out of a decent planet.

1. Yep, it is shirtsleeve weather in the Bay State, and I find it very unsettling
I am guessing the snowplow guys are tightening their belts, too. The only saving grace for them is the decrease in fuel bills, I guess.

It was convenient not to have "too much" snow in the run up to the holidays, but just about NO snow? That's just not right. And it is curious and disturbing and strange that one can put the trash out with just a shirt on, even late at night, and not freeze your ass off.
