Bushes pay respects to Ford in Capitol
By DEB RIECHMANN, Associated Press Writer
3 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - President Bush and first lady Laura Bush briefly paid their respects Monday to Gerald R. Ford, joining thousands of ordinary Americans in saying goodbye to the former president.

At midafternoon on a rainy, overcast day, the first couple stood at Ford's flag-draped casket and bowed their heads. Their stay at the U.S. Capitol lasted just a few minutes.

4. Bush knows he is not exactly welcome in public (anywhere) without crowd control.
That now seems to include State Funerals for a Republican President. Bush appears to be more isolated than even Nixon.

5. Drudge put the AP photo up--

near the story of Brittany passing out in Vegas. I'd weight the stories about equal in importance.

6. today's Ironic Times has W's statement:
George W. Bush's Official Statement
On the Death of Former President Ford

Laura and I were kind of saddened by the news of President Ford's death. The American people will occasionally admire Gerald Ford's devotion to duty, his character and the relatively honorable conduct of his Administration. The 38th President will be vaguely remembered by our nation. We offer our sympathies to Betty Ford and and some of President Ford's family. Our thoughts and prayers will be elsewhere in the hours and days ahead.
