Am I a Dem? Left? Loonie Left? I AM SO FAR FUCKING LEFT SINCE
BUSHCO TOOK OVER AND STARTED RAPING AMERICA THAT A CHINESE INVASION WOULD BE A GOOD THING!

I'd go to drink beer with Chavez, I'd work for turning the health and energy industry over to a public trust!

I used to be "mainstream." This administration has shown me how wrong I was.

/end rant.

I Like Chinese - Monty Python
Spoken: The world today seems absolutely crackers.
With nuclear bombs to blow us all sky high.
There are fools and idiots sitting on the trigger.
It's depressing, and it's senseless, and that's why...
Intro: I like Chinese,
I like Chinese,
They
only come up to your knees,
Yet they're always friendly and they're ready to please.
Verse: I like Chinese,
I like Chinese,
There's nine hundred million of them in the world today,
You'd better learn to like them, that's what I say.
Chorus: I like Chinese,
I like Chinese,
They come from a long way overseas,
But they're cute and they're cuddly, and they're ready to please.
Verse: I like chinese food,
The waiters never are rude,
Think of the many things they've done to impress,
There's M
aoism, Taoism, I Ching and chess.
Chorus: So I like Chinese,
I like Chinese,
I like their tiny little trees,
Their Zen, their ping-pong, their
yin and yang-ese.
Verse: I like Chinese thought,
The wisdom that Confucious taught,
If Darwin is an
ything to shout about,
The Chinese will survive us all without any doubt.
Chorus: So I like Chinese,
I like Chinese,
They only come up to your knees,
Yet they're wise and they're witty, and they're ready to please.
Verse: (in Chinese)
Chorus: I like Chinese,
I like Chinese,
Their food is guaranteed to please,
A fourteen, a seven, a nine and lychees.
Chorus: I like Chinese,
I like Chinese,
I like their tiny little trees,
Their Zen, their ping-pong, their yin and yang-ese.
Fade: I like Chinese,
I like Chinese...

9. Moderation is key
Americans have never been one for extremes - just doesn't seem to work there. Fascism and Nazism were, in part, a reaction to communism. In turn, communism and far-left socialism thrived because of a reaction to Fascism. These political extremes are like magnets that repel. But they never caught on in the US.

But the centre is where long term political success lies. Two centuries of progress can't be overturned by one administration.

11. The centre cannot be reached without two opposite ends.
One end has been defined, solidified and even codified.

The other end is filled with politicos who suck at the same corporate tit as the one in power.

The middle has been destroyed and it cannot be regained without the formation of a strong and defined left.

(IMHO)

I would say Americans have usually been in favor of the extremes. We have 15,000 murders each year. That's extreme too!

16. I Was Thinking Today...
...that maybe I should get over some of the qualms I have about the far-Left. The far-Right is a lot scarier. And does the far-Right ever have anything to say about workers who are getting screwed over? No! The liberal side has always tried to speak out about workers. So this more "moderate" person is being pushed more to the Left, too. Our side needs all the people we can get, anyway. Let's stop fighting each other & *unite*!

32. From Clinton-crat to social democrat, according to the moral matrix
for me.

It seemed like times were basically good during the Clinton years, so what Clinton was selling looked like the way to go. Of course, it all turned out to be very fragile, and the more I look at the reasons why, the farther left I go. It also helps that I get my news from the internet.

I believe "I Like Chinese" was originally done by The Goon Show, forerunners of Python. So off the wall they sometimes make Python look tame--especially for the times (postwar UK).

38. Here's the difference...
I no longer give a fuck what anyone else thinks.

I am past posturing or making excuses, I'm not running for office so I can take my socialistic leanings and talk them up. I went through the 60's and 70's and thought we had pushed the flow a bit.

I don't have time for finesse or the need to placate those who don't feel the way I do.

I don't necessarily dislike those who propose a more moderate path, that's fine for them. I am Left. Proudly.

Peace.

44. It's ironic
Because I came to the opposite conclusion as you. I've always been way left of moderate with the line at complete and total socialism. But I came to the conclusion we were all going to sink if some of those in the center and on the right didn't start seeing we were sinking and why. It became obvious that talkimng to them in a language they could hear is what it would take to get the boat floating again. I never dreamed it would be such a radical idea to get like-minded people to turn a degree or two so more people could hear what they were saying.

43. You know what's funny? I still think of myself as a conservative
I believe in a small, limited government. I believe in fiscal responsibility. I believe in protecting the environment. I believe in local communities addressing the needs of the local citizens with minimal interference from distant governmental agencies. I believe in providing a very basic safety net so that no one goes hungry or homeless. I believe in minding my own damn business as much as I want you to mind your own damn business. I believe in playing by the same rules as everyone else.

Now, for the life of me, I cannot figure out why all these fairly simple political beliefs that I have make me an extreme leftist.

46. Do you?
I hear that small government crap all the time. You know what it really means? It's the "you're on your own society" because that's what we had before FDR and that's why we had depression after depression. Another gift from the Reagan era. It's as much a myth as "fighting them over there". There simply won't be a true safety net that will work unless it comes from the federal because too many states would just dump the whole thing and that would put the burden on other states. The safety net costs mony, it's big, and you either take it or go libertarian and deal with the third world results.

49. "small government" is an ambiguous term
It can be taken to mean that Federal government should not use tax money to fund programs that address national (non-local) needs (such as health care, environment, education etc.

It can also be taken to mean limited power of Federal government (and more power at state level) - which does not exclude using tax money to fund programs that address national needs.

What do you mean by "small government"?
