I just feel depressed today.
Like we just keep staring into an abyss filled with an all consuming darkness. That we're ready to pitch over the edge and freefall into oblivion and there are no branches to grab onto. That there is no end to this madness.

2. It's a strange time.
And it is normal to feel down today .... whatever the heck "normal" is .... But! Things are going to be okay. Be happy that you are not one of those who thinks that today's events bring a positive vibration to the world.

3. Me too.
You described it perfectly. I get like this every time there is an execution. It sickens me.

4.  It certainly does feel that way
It just seems to get worse each day . Once you know all the horrors of it all and try to tune out it becomes almost impossible to walk away and forget it .

It just keeps coming each and everyday that even good thoughts get washed away . There just does not seem to be anyway to fix all this now .

5. Me too.
Global thermal nuclear war or global warming?

I say this is just Earth's way of fixing something that doesn't want to be fixed, while staying somewhat oblivious to the stupid little creatures that crawl around on the surface.

6. There is an end - change is inevitable
I get the distinct impression Bush is actually frightened today - lot of weird stuff going on. Notice how he's in hiding while all the Saddam stuff is going down?

By this time next week, there will definitely be some changes. We are not going into freefall.

7. Ditto. I'm embarrased that Bush thinks he's pure enough to judge the world.

8. Listen to In Dulce Jublio
It is so beautiful it almost proves there is a God.

If you're talking about the War here's something directly pertinent: there are many very good people working hard to prevent the fall.

Keep the faith. We shall overcome and this too shall pass.

10. I feel very much the same way...
I have a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach and it won't go away. Felt like this for most of the day. Everything seems upside down...

 It's good to know that we are not alone.

11. Shocked an Dismayed by the Saddam Hanging coverage in the MSM
Edited on Fri Dec-29-06 06:32 PM by KoKo01
where they have "consultants" talking about how long it takes and what it involves to die by "death from hanging,"....I decided to turn it all off today...and not even read anything on the Internet including DU for the FIRST TIME!

I'm back here posting...but I felt better today "tuning it out" than I have in a LONG TIME!

I think while we wait to see what our Dems Will Do ...to Counteract the EVIL EMPIRE...that it's taking a toll on us.

Gotta wait...and I'm posting on this post but tuning out..because I can't deal with this anymore. The Saddam SUSPENCE over the TIMING of his "EXECUTION" sort of threw me over the edge in it's grotesque and gory detail ...and showed the depths of perversion the MSCorporate Media will go to for ratings when their adverstising and viewers are on the wane...

Yes...it's a very hard time. Just when we should be feeling "optimistic"
It's hard to deal with this "new darkness" of guessing, wondering and waiting. :-(

15. me three. the glee over this execution sickens me.
i detest the death penalty, while acknowledging Saddam's vicious dictator history.
but his trial was a sham with the outcome known long in advance.

12. I feel the same way.
These are truly scarey times. If their goal was to scare us they have, not for the reasons that they want but just looking at all that they have done. I think some of it is irreparable, at least in the short term (meaning the next decade or so).

I feel the same way...and I am alone. Too much is happening.
Nothing good. The little things in life that are supposed to be so important don't even make a difference right now.
This really sucks.
Well, I'm sure that didn't help.... sorry.

peace~

14. I think the madness has bottomed out ... at least in the people.
Gore's "An Incovenient Truth" being so popular...the midterm victory...I think there is more than a whiff of hope in the air. There is still hell to pay because of the godawful mess Bush and the Republicans have made. But at least the majority of the people seem to be onto them now. Remember when Bush had approval in the sixties and seventies and we were starting an unprovoked war? That was worse.

Let's see what happens when the Dems take the reins of Congress. That gives me a lot of hope. Bush is in the eye of the hurricane right now. I think his hair is about to get seriously mussed.

16. For a "first world" country we ARE amazingly fucked up.
If it wasn't for computers, the biggest numbers generally known in this country would be solely in relation to our national debt. We are the break-away colony of the Last Great Empire (TM) who has tried our best to become an even bigger empire. And maybe we succeeded in some respects. But the days of the United States as a SuperPower are over, except in regards to our possession of the world's largest arsenal of thermonuclear devices and, as mentioned above, the world's largest debt.

Largest debtor nation AND largest stockpile of thermonuclear weapons. Ever wonder how that combination might play into our future?

Also, it's likely that our consumption of fossil fuels will continue to skyrocket until it eventually causes direct confrontations with other nations also greedy for a better spot at the energy trough.

And it all does hang, seemingly, by something like a thread. Our economy, once fairly stable even under the massive debt before Bush took office, has been weakened by outsourcing, grotesque over-spending, fraud, etc.

I think about these things. There doesn't seem to be many easy answers.

Hrm. That's not quite true. I think there are at least a few "easy" answers to some of the quandaries above. I don't think Americans have it in them, the majority of Americans, to knuckle-under and make it right. I also feel that America doesn't have politicians, on the balance, who are willing to lead America by making some necessary (but wildly unpopular) decisions to save our ass.

I have no idea where this country is going, but to me it looks like it's already falling into the abyss. Maybe not the abyss of fiction, a truly bottomless pitt. I think of it more like the abyssal region of the ocean. There's a bottom. It's very very deep down and the pressure will destroy almost anything that reaches the depth.

I try to focus on things that all of the above can't touch. We go out and bring our children to the park and they play. My son is white and my girlfriend's two boys are much darker skinned (she's half-Mexican). I see our children play with other children from all different colors and social and economic backgrounds. When I walk down the street, I usually smile at strangers and toss in a "Good Evening" or "Good Morning".

I think America's diving into a shit hole of a future but I reckon if I make sure that my children grow up right and try to bring a little more friendliness into my community when the hammer drops maybe we will be the city that doesn't entirely degrade into shooting each other for a can of tuna.

Sometimes when the worries grow broader I take a moment, especially in the summertime, and lie on my back looking up at the stars. When things appear very hopeless I like to recall that the cold vacuum of space and vast interstellar distances help act as something like a "firewall" to prevent humanity from inflicting itself on the rest of the universe until, presumably, we learn to behave ourselves a bit better and start getting along.

17. Dazed and confused...
am I, living in this parallel universe. I'm starting to think...crazy as it may be...that all this hoopla over a hanging is cover for the 'surge' in troops. Isn't that sad? With every new 'shock & awe' I need to come up with a plausible theory to create logic, out of a world gone mad.

18. .. Are we there yet?

...... There is a light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully it's not train. (lol..old joke) It's hard not to be depressed these days. I had a water-cooler conversation at work today. Most Americans have NO idea what is going on, nor do they care? The MSM has been so absent thru all of this, it is criminal. Maybe we should start Impeaching Chris Mathews and Tim Russert? I met my Office Manager at the water cooler and I said , "I hope they do not execute Sadam Hussein on Television during a Muslim Holy day, because it may inflame the situation and make it worse" . She replied, "He is responsible for 911 and he must die". (BTW.. she is an avid FOX NEWS viewer and devout Evangelical). How can you reach a person with this mindset? I have tried to educate everyone I know about 911, but its getting harder by the day. All I can do is keep trying and hope that everyone here at DU will not give up trying. Keep-on-Keepin-it-on....(showing my age) Thanx to all and have a great weekend......
