Iraq prepares for rapid Saddam execution

by Sabah Jerges
Wed Dec 27, 7:59 PM ET

BAGHDAD (AFP) - Iraq was preparing for the rapid execution of former dictator Saddam
Hussein, with the US-backed government eager to bring his chapter in the country's
bloody history to an end.

-snip-

Justice Minister Hashem al-Shibli said Saddam's death sentence for crimes against
humanity -- upheld by an Iraqi appeal court on Tuesday -- would be rubber stamped
by the presidency and the prison service would hang him.

-snip-

Judges have ordered that Saddam die within 30 days but, while Shibli said the execution
process will get underway rapidly, it could be delayed by the onset of the four-day Eid
al-Adha holiday, due to start at the end of the week.

1. I sure see trouble in this. I believe the world will think we did it.
That we had a court in Iraq do it is not going to fool them at all. Just because these people are a different religion and do not speak English does not mean their brains do not work. And it is a world wide religion. I believe I would burn my passport to be on the safe side and move back to this country fast if I was Am. or even looked like one. Willing to bet we will see no body count on this world wide.

3. I don't believe in state sanctioned murder of any ilk
so I can't support this. OTOH, I won't shed any tears for this evil madman, this tinpot dictator any more than I will if Bush and Cheney end up facing the death penalty.

4. I often wonder if any jury would pull the plug.
I do not believe in a state putting people to death. I do not think others have that right.

2. Is it going to be on pay-per-view?
I imagine it would do quite well with a certain segment of our population. What the hell, the war in Iraq has only benefited Bush's pals with their 'no-bid' contracts anyway. I can't see BushCo. allowing the chance of another windfall to go unharvested. Bush's pals in the Cable and Satellite TV market could make a killing, so to speak, from Saddam's execution and there would be no shortage of mouth breathing, drooling freepers who'd cash in their refundable beer cans to buy the 'pay-per-view of the century' program for their viewing pleasure. :eyes:

5. Maybe the new Iraqi pResident will pardon him?
It might bring a troubled Iraq together!
