Poll question: How many hours per week do you work?
Edited on Tue Dec-26-06 01:01 PM by Lucky Luciano
A curiosity for me. My mother always talks about how back in her day, one parent's salary was enough to support a family. Now two salaries barely cut it. How many hours per week do you work?

1. Most weeks 40 but I am a contract programmer
and get paid by the hour. So for me to work more, people have to sign off...

3. I'm usually in at about 53 - 55 hours per week or so
715 - 600pm M-Thurs
715 - 500 on Fri

My mother thinks I am working way too much and sacrificing a good life, but I tend to think that what I do is somewhat normal...and it is appearing that this is the case. Cost of living is very high these days.

4. 50 - 60
But I'm salaried, so no overtime. Gotta suck up. Feeling the burden of being the only one in the house working right now. It wasn't supposed to be this way.

5. 40hrs at f/t job, 10-15 @ p/t job...
And I don't know what I'd do with myself if I weren't working all the time, even though I may not enjoy working all the time. At least I'm saving up money so, hopefully, one day I can move out! :D

6. I work 60+ but I work from home
and am a co-owner so it is expected. Hoping to cut down to 50 a week this year.

7. 30-40, and I don't want more
But I am single, 28, no kids, no car, don't try and control the weather(if it's hot, I deal with it, if it's cold, I love it), I try to re-use or fix things, and just try to be.

But hey, if I ever do get married(or even find a girl who's looking for the guy with no car), maybe all that changes. On the other hand, I'd like to think it wouldn't. On the third hand, I try not to spend time thinking about it since it's out of my control. Simplify.

8. Reminds me of a phrase my ex-g/f liked to use
"Live simply so that others may simply live."

13. Similar situation here.
And yes, having no car seems to be a deal-breaker for an awful lot of potential g/f's. But whatever -- I like my simple lifestyle. And why would I want a girl who only likes me for the things I own? To paraphrase Seneca the Younger, Fortune gives us all our possessions and Fortune can take them all away. Material objects are a hollow thing to build one's life around.

Kudos to you for living life your own way and not slavishly sticking to the blueprint.
