My neighbor is being sent back to Iraq
Edited on Tue Dec-26-06 09:29 AM by DesertRat
(Edited for spelling...typing through tears)

Matthew grew up next door to us. A kind, intelligent boy. He was an honor student at the local Jesuit high school. His parents were proud when their only child was accepted to West Point. (During the Clinton administration). After graduation he completed his service, including a tour in Iraq at the beginning of the war. We were so relieved when he returned safe and sound. He decided to leave the military when his time was up. He married last year and began a civilian career. Three weeks ago he and his wife became parents of a baby girl.

His parents flew to see them last week to celebrate the holidays. Last Thurs. while they were wrapping presents and preparing for their first Christmas in their new home with their new baby, his orders arrived. Out of the blue. Merry Christmas from the chimp. A year and a half in the Army Infantry. He won't have same job that he was trained for and served the first time around. He'll now be an officer in the Infantry.

His parents were shocked and dismayed when they stopped by to tell us last night. What will happen to his new job? How will they pay for the new house? His wife quit her career to stay home with their new baby.

Damn this miserable president!! Damn this war!!

1. Sounds like he had a year and a half left on his Reserve time
and they are going to use it. He's lucky that all he has left or it would be more than one tour.

10. Or he never resigned his commission.
DU's own tabasco could shed some light on how that sting operates and the tough decisions that have to be made.

2. Allow me to be a "conservative" for a moment
Fuck him. He's a volunteer. He should be honored to serve the greatest President this country has ever had. One day he will be proud that he fought in this just war to protect our way of life. What's that you ask? No I've never served in the military. I don't have to. Don't pull that liberal bullshit on this patriot.

Yes Desert Rat, damn him straight to hell, along with all his ignorant, arrogant supporters.

Anyone remotely connected to PNAC should be tried, found guilty and hanged by the neck until dead.

6. I don't think a conservative would say that
"Fuck him"? Nowhere in the post did I say that he isn't honored to serve. I'm sure he is.

7. I'm sure he
is very honored to serve his country and proud to actually do something for his country as I was for 24 years. And I agree a conservative would not have such a reaction. However, I know "conservatives" would. Here is the talking points on the subject by the fake patriots in our country who proudly proclaim their "conservative" values.

- Our troops are all volunteers
- More get killed in car wrecks
- Many come home faking PTSD

Such nonsense makes those who have never done anything for their country feel good about themselves.

3. that is tough
My cousin has been in Iraq about a month now. I know a few others there, including one of my kids back when I was a HS wrestling coach. This administration makes me sick. Awful people. It's truly a shameful time in our history.

11. No kidding. Once you serve, how long does the military own your ass?
How can you live your life not knowing whether you will be called up again? I just can't imagine.
